Is this a problem? :headscrat

Honestly, I had never smelled my screwdrivers before (you guys sniff your hand after you wipe too? ) but they didn't have one of my big flatheads, so I'll have to wait on that, but it's handle stunk and the new ones I got don't. The new ones are Phillips and the shaft looks almost sand cast and the old tips seemed to have serrations whereas the new ones don't.

No smell???!!! What good are they then? Might just as well have gotten Snappys. And yes I do smell my hand after I wipe -- my screwdrivers off:lol_hitti

If it doesn't stink it is defective. Take it back to Sears and get one that stinks. LOL

I thought they start to smell with time. Something about the polymers mixing with oxygen. They also begin to yellow with exposure to certain light, especially sunlight!

I have a set of Snap On screw drivers I got new about 20 years ago. If you leave them in the tool box drawer for a week or so the handles start getting an oily watery liquid oozing out of them and it starts to rust everything in the drawer. Oh and yes my old Craftsman screwdrivers stink.

And I thought it was just me! I am glad to hear my screwdrivers are not alone.

I hate that smell!

My Xcelite kits make Craftsman (Craftsmen?) smell like the sweetest of perfumes.

Wiha's should arrive soon. I'll do a smell report on the Germans...which makes me wonder about Facom screwdrivers.

I'm anxious to hear about the Wihas. I've been eyeballing them for awhile. My Craftsmans (especially the first ones I ever got) smelled right out of the adult proof molded plastic cocoon they come in. I like (tongue in cheek) the smell - it reminds me of tools and the first tool gifts I got as a young man.

If you like the smell you have not had them long enough. Mine smell like spoiled milk/vomit/old hot beer. My Xxcelite stuff also smells 100 times worse then the Craftsman's. My Snap On stuff does not smell they just oozes oily liquid.

Oh yea, besides the smell my Craftsman stuff gets white fungus growing on the handles if you let them sit in a drawer for a while.

I had a bunch of tools loose in a plastic tray in my garage and had them blessed by some rat. Its one of those smells that seems to keep coming back too.

Bad news, I recently got two sets of Wiha Standard Precision Tech series, 26799 & 26199, 16 pieces, no fragrance.

I love my smelly xcelite stuff; not because it smells, but because after 25+ years, they still work great and hold up real well to use/abuse ... :)

I have a tool box with a bunch of old tools in it I use when I go to the U-Pull it junkyards. Plenty of old Craftsman screwdrivers and some Xcelite screwdrivers that were my grandfathers. I have to open it up every now and then to let them air out. They small bad.

Wihas don't stink at all.
I still say my old Craftsmans and Xcelites don't stink, either. Nor do my Snap-Ons ooze anything.

OK.....heres the deal on stinkin Snap-Ons. I bought a set in 71.....
20 years later.....they started stinking and oozing. Snap-On said it was because of the type plastic ( recycled) used in the handles....and replaced ALL the handles because of this. I have a set of metric Craftsman nut drivers that smell like......well.....ass. :wtf: Probably the same deal. I have also seen the white mold on some Craftsman too.

This reminds me of the time I had a skunk move into the garage. It was winter and I felt sorry for the little bugger so I let him stay. When my wife asked me "What about the smell? " I said " It's okay, he'll get used to it."
