On the KRL box I just got, the stainless top is sitting (tightly) on a piece of thick wood, which is then just sitting on top of the tool box (with the original rubber mat sandwiched in). I ton think this is the correct mounting method. I dont see any kind of lip under the top however, to attach the stainless top securely to the top of the box. If there was a lip that bent under on the stainless top, I could shoot some sheetmetal screws up, from inside ther box, into the stainless top lip (the lip that doesnt exist) thats how I thaught they attached.

What am I missing?

I have a friend that has one of these boxes and you can see the particle board under the stainless top all the way around. Pretty cheap looking for such an expensive box. He talked to his dealer about a month ago and he said he was going to get him another top, but nothing has developed yet.

when i got my box and top it came with screws that you would screw directly into the wood. If you open the top drawer you would see holes that go directly into the top of the box.

In the old days, the hardboard laminate top that came with the boxes just stayed there by virtue of gravity.

How about some self-adhesive velcro "dots" or those double stick mounting squares?

I didn't even use the screws that came with the top, just laid it down on top of the rubber mat the box comes with.

I replaced MIne with some good quality Cabinet Grade plywood...this makes it so you can run some good sized lag screws into it from underneath..their should be holes already their for screws...I used 6 lag screws to attach mine..its not going anywhere now..I wanted mine secured really well as I have a small 5" Vise bolted to the top.

HaHa....nowhere but here would a 5" vise be considered "small"...;)

You will still see the wood around the edges. Im going probably go with the idea of getting a thick sheet of cabinet greade plywood, so I can screw it to the top, and have it the correct thickness to put the top on, but have no gap.
