I have an OTC Genisys scanner, bought it in 2005. I only use it occasionaly now as I've closed my shop, is there a way to have it updated reasonably?

Any suggestions appreciated.

I have one updated till 09 with the keyless smart cable. To be honest with you
for the price you may pay to update that tool you could buy a new scanner.

same seller has a better deal: this includes euro package for 75 more than the other i listed. so 775 gets you pretty much covered for all types of stuff.

I bet you have the same problem I have. My Mac taskmaster which is the next step OTC below yours has 2005 software. I skipped the 2007 update since I wasn't working on anything that new. 2009 update included body code, I wanted that. Problem is I have to buy 2007 update to make 2009 update work, close to $800 in updates. I'm thinking of selling or trading it off on a new one, I just havn't done anything yet.

^^^^ Don't you need the smart cable (keyless) to run the newer software? or maybe get more Of the SSI chips?

my scan tool i bought used (matco determinator). it was a red button scan tool that was operating on version 1.8 and current until 2002. i was able to update it all to 2009 specs just this past year. the key was going from the 1.x operating system to something 3.0 or newer. i went straight to the 4.0 that is bundled w/ the new software.

i dropped the 200 for the smart cable just to do away w the stupid chips.
some cars will only scan w/ the smart cable and version 4.0--i think mostly euro stuff.

for bmw/mercedes oem connectors-- just buy generic ebay cables for $3 each they work with this. saves buying the euro cable package. as the euro cable package is nothing more than adapters to go from the obd2 dlc style connector to the euro's oem style connector.

I could really use one of these right now.

Hey, is there any real advantage to getting a newer one instead of an older model?
