To be used for general all around use like tires and air tools, being my take places in back of truck compressor. is there any reason one would not spend the extra few hundred and get the one with more cfm and horsepower? whatcha think? I am thinking go big unless i find a good reason to go smaller..

This is a specialized thing. For $150 more you get a decent amount more CFMs. depends on how many nail guns and similar items you need to operate. They are the same dimensions, same shipping weight and the fuel burn is probably very close, so the only downside to the larger capacity seems to be price.

For the use you describe a $1000 200 lb high capacity framing contractors compressor would not be my first thought. Do you really need it to run off a gasoline engine?

Gas is noisey, hot, needs gas and oil and other small motor repairs, plus it doesn't seem to me a small gas engine really lends itself to the demands of a low usage air compressor.

What could also work is a 10 gallon portable tank and a really small 12v compressor to top it off, as long as you didn't have that high of demand in a short period of time.

Over 60% more CFM for only a 15% higher cost. Kinda easy to decide if you look at it that way.
