To slow down a chop saw using a router speed controller to a good speed to use carbide tipped blades? Or will that greatly reduce power because the motor is being slowed down rather than being geared down

I don't think the type of motor that is used in those applications slow down, they operate in sync with the 60 hz AC power.

A few months ago, someone posted a link to a $50 chop saw blade that has teeth. I can't seem to find it but I am pretty sure atleast one person responded that it worked great.

The blade in question is made by Bullet Industries and runs at 4400rpm max. I have used it and it's great. To answer the other part of the question, I have used router speed controls for just that purpose and It works ok, but you do lose a lot of power that way. Slow and easy is the key there.

Yep, that is exactly the problem. On a universal type motor, speed control is easy, just vary the voltage, but the power produced drops off very quickly. On the true dry cut saws, they have a planetary gear drive to reduce the speed down to about 1500 rpm.

Whats so special about that bullet blade? I know it's rated at 4400rpm... but what makes it any different from other similar blades that gives it that rating? I wonder if there's any harm in just running a regular carbide metal cutting blade at that speed
