Here the deal, I have a year or two old 10mm Deep Craftsman socket that is clearly marked like a normal Craftsman socket would be! The thing is its not a 10mm as marked but its an 8mm even though its marked 10mm! Is this socket rare or worth anything? Should I sell it or take it back and get a new 10mm at sears? I think its kinda cool so i am open to ideas! I can get pictures if they are wanted!

Probably not worth much of anything.

Just go buy a new socket and plant the mismarked one in a friends toolbox:bounce:

That's a good idea with planting it! I work on mostly Fords because I am Ford Certified at the independent shop i work at! Fords use a lot of 10mm so that would be funny!

That's what I thought! I didn't know if it was a rare screw up or what! I hear some things like coins that are missed in quality control are really rare and are worth some money! Wasn't sure if it applied to tools! Someone may collect tools that are factory screw ups you never know! Should I keep it and mess with people or sell it? or just keep it for an 8mm?

I got a ratcheting wrench that was a 13mm once where the open end was 13mm and the ratcheting end was only 12mm. Took it back and they had to order me a new one. They screwed that one up and sent me the wrong tools, but hey, they let me keep the wrong ones...

I think he is calling you a sucker.
BTW the only Craftsman error socket that I could find on eBay was part of set that sold for $16.

Here's a link to the max value of the socket:

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00944405000P?prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1

It's an error. There's likely someone out there that would be slightly interested in it, but there's no generally accepted special value to that socket beyond it's price new.

What yours shows is a wrong side marked socket! Mine is a 10mm marked socket but is actually a 8mm socket marked as a 10mm! not marked on the wrong end but completely wrong size on the socket!

That is a plain 8mm socket! Mine is a 10mm socket marked on the side but is actually not a 10mm its a 8mm! The bolt end of the socket is a 8mm when it is suppose to be a 10mm

I have a new 19mm that was stamped unsidedown. QC is not the best at the Craftsman factory

I have a deep socket that's stamped both 15mm and 17mm right over top of each other, I can never remember what size it actually is though hahah

Well dude I was just going off what other people have posted! I have already received 2 offers on the socket! One for $15 and another for $10! so it is worth more than $2.99 like someone said! I listed it on eBay for kicks to see what it will sell for! Here is the listing http://www.ebay.com/itm/180840886484?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649#ht_500wt_1413

Negatory, chief. I said:

Most people will find that socket worth less than retail. You've found that someone that's slightly interested in it. Sell it to them. Get a couple extra bucks out of it. Retire early.

Also, you realize that now that you've posted that link, the same jokesters will likely make you exorbitant offers via eBay, so take them with a grain of salt.

I actually find this thread quite entertaining (for all the wrong reasons, of course)

Someone has listed a poorly marked craftsman wobble extension for $50 on eBay. Maybe if you listed your socket as RARE and UNIQUE you'll find a collector (or prankster) trying to put together a set of mismarked metric craftsman sockets.

You should list in on ebay as a Japanese metric 10mm. Metric stuff is smaller there, you know.

Ok that is a flipping joke! I listed mine for .99 cents starting and $5 shipping! that's reasonable! Not $50 starting bid!
