Air Hoses

I need new airhoses, and finding a good set of 25 and 50ft air hoses is darn near impossible. I gave up on the Harbor Freight brand a long time ago. Their Indian made house brand stuff splits very easily and is absolutely the worst quality, so I started buying the Goodyear hoses that HF also stocks.

Well, after four months of use, the Goodyear hoses are starting to crack and split on the ends, near the crimped fittings. Just like the HF Indian manufactured junk. I take good care of my air hose inventory, but for some reason the quality of these last few Goodyear purchases has been aweful.

I have several old stock Montgomery Ward air hoses from 30 years ago and they are as flexible and pliable as the day they were purchased. I now save those for painting jobs. Unfortunately, over the years some of the other Wards hoses have been damaged and needed to be replaced. I thought Goodyear was a good value, but this stuff is just crap.

Anyone know who sells good quality rubber 5/16 or 3/8 inch hose with 1/4" NPT ends.

Really???? Wow... i have always been satisfied with my Made in USA Goodyear rubber hoses. Maybe you got some duds?

I cannot tell you why but years ago I always heard that the red colored hose was better; I have several in the 3/8" size and have never had one take a dump on me yet but the color thing defies logic!

I had a black Goodyear hose for several years and it started to deteriorate, split, and leak. I have a couple red hoses that have been fine for years and years. Also one of those blue hoses. It's ok but it's way too stiff.

You know, I heard the same thing mentined to me over the years. Never paid much attention to it, but now that you mention it --- guess what color those good ol' Wards hoses are?

I agree with the OP. The Googyear one are crap. Mine are less than a year old and are cracked. I picked them up at HF also. I wonder if they sell "Seconds" or something? Maybe they are just old? I need to replace mine (though the don't get much use these days.) and am also wondering where to get good hoses.

I'm using a GYear hose from Northern Tool that I bought 10 years ago and it is still great. No leaks and it has been abused regularly.

We use "Mongoose" branded ones at work. The guy who takes care of shop supplies carries them. They are pretty cheap as I recall, and yeah, after time the ends split but some of these hoses have not been changed in over a year...

We use the red jacketed Goodyear hose at work, 1/4 and 3/8. Comes on 1000 ft spools. We cut what we need and use Foster air fittings that screw on and in the hose. No clamps needed.

The stuff is darn near indestructible.

Red hose is the ticket. I've never seen a shop that used black ones daily, and I doubt it's a coincidence.

I have a cheap 100' 3/8" yellow hose that I paid something like 30.00 for that is about a year and a half old & is holding up fine. Only problem is where it was laying on the floor & rats/mice chewed on it in a few places but it's still holding air. Put down some antifreeze, rat poison & fly bait for them since they seemed hungry & make sure the hose doesn't lay on the floor anymore. Now to get a good hose reel.....

My personal favorite hose is flexeel hose. It is reinforced polyurethane, coils easily in all temperatures and is easy to clean. By far my favorite and is like new after years of use. Not cheap though.

I use red Goodyear for my 25 footers. Over 15 years old and still going strong. I also have 2 50 fr. yellow Devilbiss hoses from Sams club. They are about 10 years old. Other than stiffer in cold weather, they are wearing and working very well. If you haven't already, do a forum search here. I know we discussed this topic about a year or so ago.

How about going to your local auto paint supplier and asking if they carry anything. I have one of those "really old" air hoses in the shop and it is like a piece of spaghetti still. I love it, but really need a new one. One of the ends on it says "DeVilbiss" and the hose is red.

Last time I was here, they had some serious looking hoses. Not terribly cheap, but they also could make any size/type/psi you wanted.

The red Michelin hose from Costco seems to hold up really well; of course, my black Goodyear hose has no problems too ... :)

Best ones out there from what I have seen are made by Mohawk. no relation to the lift maker. We use them on the shops and they take a beating day in and out. I have at least 150 in use and have had none fail other than from damage or to replace an end or two The ones used by the final detail guys last about a year before I need to replace the fitting and remove a section of hose. They use air buffers all day and twist and bend the hose end a lot. I cut back about 4 inches and swag a new end on.

I took a look at some of my older red ones that I thought were Goodyear. They say AIR-TEK on them. Couldn't find anything on the net. I know they are probably pushing around 35 years old and are still going strong. I've even wiped some of my red ones down with lacquer thinner a few times and no sign of breakdown of any kind.

i have a 25' hose of the yellow goodyear hose, 3/8, from northern i believe.. and it is very nice.. holding up really well...

I would like to know where you can get a good 50' hose and real combo... i can find the 25' ones all day long.. and the few 50'ers i find are crap... a nice retractable one.
