View Full Version : Parts tumbler - which one would you get?
Since I am spending more and more time working on my cars and even helping friends out with their projects I'm now interested in getting a parts tumbler to help clean up bolts, nuts and small parts (less than 6 to 8" in length). I am getting by with a wire wheel/brush on my 3/8 air drill but for the small stuff it sure would be nice to drop em in a tumbler and let it do the work.
I did a search (on this site) but only came up with the relatively cheap HF one. I would like to spend a little more $100 to $200 to get a nice one that will last and is of decent size.
Post up some recommendations please.
Thanks

I think that Eastwood's tumbler has been mentioned: http://www.eastwoodco.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=10971&itemType=PRODUCT&RS=1&keyword=Vibratory+Tumbler
They have a couple other ones as well including a $100 "economy" model and a $900 "elite" model: http://www.eastwoodco.com/shopping/search/searchresultsmain.jsp?affiliate=1&fresh=1&searchType=advanced&RS=1&keyword=Vibratory+Tumbler
I'd say it depends on what you're cleaning and how much time you have. I have an Eastwood tumbler and don't care for it at all. When I need to clean hardware, I need it NOW. Not after 6 hours of tumbling around in the machine... and then wait for the hardware to dry... and still end up cleaning it on the bench mounted wire-wheel.
Maybe I was doing something wrong, but I followed the directions to the letter... and the directions say "run machine for 4-6 hours" or something like that... I said, "WTF???" ...cleaned it up, put it back in the box, and tossed it into the "waiting to be Ebay'd" pile... :wtf:
What a waste of money...

bobX2 Eastwood kills you on price for less quality. I got a nice one for $60 or so years ago. Still kicking.
