Basement floor coating

I plan on putting the epoxy coating on the floor in my garage, but what about the basement. It will be exposed to a much less hars environment, is there some for of paint (that won;t stink up the entire house) that is designed for this?

For a basement floor Id use the Rustoluem product, seems .like a good epoxy but just doesn't cut it in garages although some have had good results with it even there. Depending on the size though a whole basement could be expensive and carpet might be a better idea. .02

Carpet will trap too much dust. I was thinking of some non-epoxy type paint.

I have had the Rustoleum "home owner grade" epoxy paint on my garage floor for 3 years now and find that the secret is prepping the concrete according to the directions. Iwould expect the same is true with their basement floor epoxy. Don't use regular paint on a concrete floor. Even paints made for concrete will wear off after a while.

Have you considered tile?

My parents house has the Armstrong self stick tiles on the basement floor and they've held up for the past 16 years. The concrete floor was vacuumed real well before peeling and sticking them down plus we didn't have any moisture problems from the floor before hand so that was never an issue.

They do also make the tiles that require an additional adhesive, similar to the commercial grade one's they use in schools and stores. I think this is the tar based adhesive.

I just wanted to throw that thought out there since depending on what you want to do with your basement tile may be a good option.
