Obviously the handle is different... but what about the rest of it. You think it might all come from the same factory in Taiwan?

Its certainly hard to say, but the chrome handle forging has a different shape just in front of the handle and the pin in the heads are a different color (chrome vs black).

Are they both quick release?

Those are just two more examples of the Chinese trying to copy the original; but the material used, the tolerances and the construction are inferior.

I have heard that genius tools are ok, I would not know because I have not used them.

T but the material used, the tolerances and the construction are inferior.

Are you sure? :wtf:

How can you make that statement? Have you purchased and compared these tools to others? Have you taken measurement?

I was just wondering if they are the same model with differences only made for brand badging...

Probably the same I would say. You never know with all of the Chinese clones/rip offs on the market. More than likely rolled down the same plant line in China somewhere.

Who says these are made in China? They could be Taiwanese, which is MUCH better than Chinese.

i bought a set of genius 1/2 impact sockets thet were traded in to the snappy guy for $20 for my home box. i have only used a few but they do the job. they don't get used as hard as the tools i have at work so it's hard to compare but for taiwan made they are ok.

Yeah, I have the 1/4" version of the HF model and it's made in Taiwan if I'm not mistaken (not at home). Anyway, my vote is that they're the same thing, but it's hard to tell without comparing them side by side in person.

Pretty neat site. They claim they are offering a "tool truck" grade product at a fraction of the cost. I would not mind trying one of the tools out.

Bad email address. I will get the correct one.

Actually, a good amount of the new Taiwan stuff at HF looks similar to be the same as Genius's products. The ETORX sockets and hex bit sockets come in particular.

Only thing I see is the shaft is shaped slightly differently just before the handle...

Curious to see what the deal is with all these new HF "Professional" tools.

Would you trade in your FH747 for that Genius?

No you wouldn't? That's what I thought.

No, you're right, I wouldn't. But I also wouldn't go around making ridiculous blanket statements based on emotion rather than fact either.

I agree with you! I bought a set of 1/2 drive metric impact swivel sockets about a year ago and haven't had a issue with them, and they look identical to the Genius swivel sockets that the S-K tool truck has on his truck! Also I bought one of the 3/8 swivel head ratchets at HF to see how good it would hold up and so far so good, and it also looks like a Genius ratchet except the handle is made different but the head looks identical!

Back in the day there were only a couple of VCR manufacturers that stuck different covers on the same machines for various brands. I think there are close similarities between alot of the Taiwan made tools be it Genius, Harbor Freight, or some other brand. perhaps Harbor freight gets the over runs or lesser models. There are only so many variations available to a certain size of production capability.
