Tri-Star drill press?

Hey, All:

I just won an auction on a 1/2" spindle 1/3hp Tri-Star drill press. It's bench mount, 5-speed, and apparently "heavy duty."

Anyone ever hear of Tri-Star? Good? Bad?

Looks like a standard light duty Taiwanese 5 speed drill press. I have one for my hobby room and purchased it from TSC many years ago. They are a good buy for what you get. Definitely not heavy duty, but for small work it will do the job and last a long time.

Variations of this basic design are sold by every tool vendor across the US. The Taiwanese versions are superior in quality with respect to casting, motor, and finish versus the mainland Chinese copies (which tend to vary a great deal depending on the manufacturer).

I got the northern tools version of it, works good (not that I use it much).
