Hello!!!!
I have a IR Titanium 1/2 impact not sure on the model# It has a cover on it.
Any who..........When I'm using it there is smoke and some light sparks coming from the front bearing / socket drive.:shocking:
My question is Does it require grease or is the bearing failing?
Any help would be great.

If you see light sparks, it's too lat for any kind of grease; time to replace the bearing ... on the Titanium, only model is the 2135ti ... and the new 2135timax ...

Mine is the older model 2135TI.

So this is what I need? Is the bearing pressed in or not?

Possibly. There was a popular IR impact model 2131 (the shiney Craftsman pro model) before the 2135TI and those parts in that auction may be for that model of impact. I think the bearing is pressed in. If that bearing is gone, it may be time for a trade in on a new 2135TIMAX depending on what other damage there is. There is a grease fitting below the nose on those models.

Couldn't find the instructions for the 2135ti, but should be close to the 2131 .. it looks pretty easy ... http://www.irtechpubs.com/ir_pdfs/Tools/Impact%20Tools/Air%20Impactools/45481785_ed1.pdf

I bought it used for $30.00 and it is in very good cosmetic condition, but it could have not been maintained well.

I know guys that add air tool oil at the beginning and again at the end of each shift and shoot a little grease in about once a month. I also know other guys that just attach the impact to the air hose and never oil or grease anything and their impacts never seem to fail. I've never rebuilt an impact so, I don't know how much parts are but, with only $30 invested it may be worth a shot since a new 2135TIMAX is about $225.

I've always just put oil into the air fitting and slowly run the impact for a minute. However I think here I found out later that there is a grease fitting on the metal housing. On the older one it is by the trigger and on the newer ones it is on the front under the drive. The older one we've used and abused and hasn't failed yet.

That kit does not have the part you need. The bearings you see are for the air motor. The bushing that gets pressed into the nose of the hammer case only comes as part of the assembled hammer case. Does the sparks and smoke occurr when you are impacting or when the tool is running free speed?

I noticed it when I free spun it, I smelt something burning like grease burning.

Impacts are not meant for running free speed for any length of time, doing that will generate heat and can cause what you are describing. If you do not have a problem when using the tool normally, then I would recommend you just make sure the thing is greased and don't worry about it.

I only did that because I smelt the burning. I will grease it and see though, Thanks!!

Is the handle plastic or is it an all aluminum housing gun?
