Yea, I want to know too!
Maybe the old version of the MG31 (I think it was the IM31), but my MG31 has a ton of power, so much I rarely pull out my 1/2 impact.
Its pricier than the IR, but its also made in the USA, and union labor costs a lot more than chinese labor, by a lot!

Me too I own Used MG31 but i almost never need 1/2dr impact wrench unless it is stuck... i still own IM31 but it is my backup if i need it while one of MG31 at my house for rebuild (i dont think it need rebuild soon unless i have to)
the Ebay have some of MG31 but it are above the 150 or more dollars... some of MG31 are new or little used...

I also use a MG31 on most everything. It's loud as hell, but it gets the job done
The purchase was a little biased, trade in plus a bunch of other free stuff if I bought it. also, who services SK? The snapon dealer happens to be the only one that shows up every week, so I tend to stick with them

that other reason i bought MG31s and IM31 because my snap on guy always stop by my work every friday....
i had no problems with any air tools that i own that other techs complaints about too louds while i am deaf... :lol_hitti:lol_hitti:thumbup::lol_hitti:beer:

There are a lot of threads on the MG31 vs. the 2115TI. Both IR and Snap on have a lot of experience making pneumatic tools, and they design and make them themselves.
Who makes the SK tools? They just came out with pneumatic tools, I would see if you can find someone who owns and uses the SK before even considering it.
See if your Snap On dealer has an MG31 he can loan you for a week.

The 2115Ti is not made in China, it is assembled in Pennsylvania.

Assembled in USA, from non USA made parts.
The MG31 clearly says "Made in USA", which means it has to be really made in the USA, the parts too.
Assembled in USA means parts and/or sub assemblies are shipped in from overseas, and assembled here.

Chad, Your are correct. The thing is that the Made in USA rules are a little ambiguous. I'm not sure of Snap-On's interpratation of the rules but I can tell you that IR is very conservative when it comes to the percentage of US content required. You'd be pleasently surprised at just how much of the internals of that tool are made in the states.

Thanks for the good info.

Ok, for the guy who wants to spend ~$200 on a 3/8 impact we have the IR2115TI.
What about for the guy who wants to spend ~$100???
Looking for compact/light and fairly air efficient (I'm not looking for something as good as the IR above, I understand you get what you pay for).
Is there something of good quality but spec'ed a bit less than the 2115? Maybe a bit heavier, less torque (I don't need 250+ ft-lbs).
Thanks guys
Tim

I would watch the sales at Sears. Their 3/8 drive pro 3/8 impact model 09-19916 often goes on sale for $159. The gun is a clone of the IR 2112 and is a great gun. I know it more than a $100 on sale but, it's the best deal I can think of.

Northern tool has a 3/8" composite for 120, Toolwarehouse has a CP724H for 139.50. I would stay away from the bottom feeder (<45-50) dollar impacts, they are nothing but frustrating to use because they won't loosen anything even remotly tight which is probably why you're using an impact to begin with.

Careful shopping of the better brands on ebay. Second if you can wait look for Sears sales, but avoid the low end.
Sorry I have had so much bad luck on the lower end that I do not think under 100 for an impact. The will not loosen is true. I once was given a Cummin's impact, it just sat there and rattled. I took out a smaller FAR7200 which spun the nut right off. Another el-cheapo 3/8 clone was out performed in nut removal by a FAR25C. I had tried to use the impacts for speed since I knew the ratchets would be slow, I had expected them to do more than just make noise, but that was all. Warrantied, yes, but not worth the gas or postage to replace.

can i offer another candidate in the mix:
Aircat 1355-XL?
it's about .3 lbs heavier than the 2115TI. This is the aircat line of "twin clutch" gun in 3/8", they called their twin clutch guns, "nitrocat". They also have a twin hammer 3/8" for about $140 rated at 400 ft lbs.
The 1355-XL is rated at 500ft lbs, if I give it a lie factor of 25% it should bust out an "honest" 375ft lbs.
I believe they are made in Taiwan though, but they have been sold as MAC at some point or maybe still is.

I have a very close friend who works as a machinist for snap on at the Natick Mass. plant, Where all the Snap On air tools are made. I can promise with the exception of the bearings, they are Made in the U.S.A. Why are the bearings foreign made? Because there is no longer a bearing manufacturer in the U.S.A. Another interesting bit of knowledge on the MG series of impacts the magnesium housings are farmed out to a machine shop specially designed to cast and machine magnesium as the powder is highly explosive. Snap On in Natick is working up to 20 Hr. days 6 days a week to meet the demand of the new MG725, I will write a first impression of the MG725 in another thread.
Good day

This may be a stupid question, but is there that much of a difference between a $150 IR 1/4 air ratchet and the $20 Harbor freight one? I have been in the market for one and have a couple HR 3/8 air ratchets and no complaints as of yet. Hard to come up with reasons to spend the extra money.

I think maybe consider starting a new topic for it.
$150 1/4" IR ratchet would be titanium series 1215TI with a flathead design. The $20 HF more reasonably compared to IR 103. Well, the HF pittsburgh professional air ratchet do seem to work just as good as any other Chinese ones like CH and the like..
I personally have the HF one but it's a bit loud even for 1/4" so I am thinking of a bit better one.
