I am in need of some help. i have a 2 post western hoist in the barn. some how i mested up the actual hyd pump on the hoist. what happened was i was lifting up my wagoneer and got about 3/4 of the way up and it sounded like it was out of/low on oil. so i set it on the safty locks and went to see if i had any oil, i was out so i did what i need to do and then got a quart of oil and put it in. when i went to lift it off the stops and the pump spun for a second and stalled the motor. so i pulled the pump head and the imput shaft would not spin. so i broke the 4 bolts on the case loose to see what was locked up and the input started to spin freely,so i pulled the top off to see if any junk was inside and did not find any thing in there. so i put it back together and now cant get it to pump any type of pressure. i'm i supose to prime it with something? i'm kind of stumped at the momment. also were is a good place rebuild info. or am i sol and need to get a new head. the brand name on the head is webster.

Thank for the help, Trout

Sounds like a hydraulic lock Why? I don't know. When you went for a look see, sounds air bound.

I suggest you bleed it to circulate the oil and try again.

I know zip about the details, but seems like the pump is kind of a generic thing one brand to another, various brands of motor etc. My guess is the problem isn't the pump though.

The input shaft to the pump head would not spin, which lead me to tear it apart. the drive motor will free spin under its own power. the only other thing i think it could be is the 2 way valve.
Russlaferrera,i did not here a sound like air presure when i cracked it apart, but if it does not work when i put it back together this morning i'll crack open the main line to the rams and see what it does.
The part that sucks is my jeep is 4' in the air and i would like it down so i can play in the mud this week end.

You can not compress a liquid. The valve may be closed or obstructed. Good point. If the pump spins, and the valve is still closed me thinks air, because it should stop dead as before you took it apart. To be honest I'm guessing here!! Open a line and see if it pumps. Another possibility an "O" ring got tore up and is blocking something.
