Yup, used for adjusting the high tension spring thingy on the booster brake on the Space Shuttle........but then I am sure everyone already knew that didn't they! :pimpflash

Seriously ?
Do I have to give it back? :)
It was in that top chest I posted about a few weeks ago. That box was definitely used by an auto mechanic at some point. Who knows how the bar got in there.

Only the early muscleshuttle era ones, the latter ones went on to disk technology then on to the more recently used version known as the Jethro Bodine double nought spy secret agent George Jetsen style commonly reffered to as the Bodine Jetsen system that uses air over passed gas! Clearly a system that will be very difficult to improve further upon in the coming years! :wtf:

Well, I don't know if it is worth much, but that appears to be a real NASA tool. It would have likely been used on the crawler or some other large support unit. Not the shuttle or even the S5. Judging by the rust, I doubt it was part of any geological survey kit used for the lunar landings. Those I belive were titanium. Good conversation piece though!

Elroy hates to bust your bubble but it is quite obvious this tool is for a "B-1" bomber. Says right there "B-1"

Actually, Elroy believe he saw some of these tools once at a NAPA.

Thanks all..
I just had 2 queer looking blonde guys from pbs come and appraise it.
Apparently this was the butt scratcher issued to Buzz Aldrin (thats what the b-1 code is. N.Armstrongs was b-2). What looks like rust in the photos is actually residue from use. Interestingly some of the corrosion is heavy and the bar is bent. This is from diet problems probably from drinking too much 'Tang'.
After taking several deep sniffs for nostalgia sake I'll put it in an archival display case and hang it over my work bench .:)

Jethro from the 1960's sitcom "The Beverly Hillbillies" (the young dumb guy) and George Jetsen (the dad) from the 1960's cartoon series of the era called " The Jetsens" sorry bout that Junk Man! (this was of course all tongue in cheek!)

There it is!!!! I was looking for that all over the place. I though it was next to the hyper drive capacitor.
Please return it or we will have to scrub the next launch.

Please quickly mail to:

I was afraid you were going to tell us it fell from the sky one day. Maybe it is a misstamped NAPA tool and now has great collector value due to that, like a double d penny.

Quick, list it on Ebay as a flux capacitor adjuster.

What good is a Space Shuttle brake adjuster if the brake lines themselves are loose and leaking.

When you're good at PhotoShop (or other such programs) any picture is possible.
It IS a very good pic though!

Elroy's addiction to tools prevented him from recalling he actually had these "in stock". They have been in the "collection" for at least 10 years.

I use to have a garage full of NASA surplus stuff. I had 1 equipment rack that was full of chart recorders, wind speed and direction meters, and a transmitter/receiver. I was told it was used for the Mercury program. A museum in NY bought it. I got it all from a guy that use to go to NASA surplus auctions back in the 70's.
