What about just sealing cement with something like Tompson"s Waterseal? Would this keep the oilstains at bay?

Thompson's can be used but I'm not sure what it will do as far as a sealer.

You can use a regular water-based sealer but it will have to be re-applied every couple of years depending on use.

Epoxy is a near-permanent deal...

I have a couple of problems with the epoxies-one is the prep work needed to make sure the paint sticks and two-the fact that I have to drag equipment in when I'm done. I suspect that I could spends days epoxing the floors only to destroy everything when I move my lathe, mill two steel fab tables and sandblast cabinents into the shop. The finishers did a crappy job on my floors and a solid color paint will just highlight their work, too. Suggestions?

Gerry ,

I used the Thompson waterbased seal on my garage floor it was OK untill the dirt bike leaked some gas and the area began to peal off At that point I was frustrated and deciced to allow the sealer to weather out and reseal with a solvent based sealer I purchased from a concrete supply buisness in my area . the sealer was somewhat more expensive than the waterbase and I had to purchase a metal pressure sprayer to apply it . The sealer will tolerate the gasoline more than the waterbase. Steve

gents.

I will be epoxying (is that a word?) my floors in the shop. One of my biggest concerns was damaging it when I move my machines / equipment in. What i've done in the past is just bought a few sheets of "hardwood". It's 1/8" thick wood/cardboard paneling that can withstand a forklift (10,000lbs!). It's cheap at HD or Lowes

I put the sheets wherever the forklift will be going and no scratches!

I just keep the sheets in a shed or hidden untill I need them.
