I guess I'll have to do some research some night and find out what waterborne paint is.

I've heard of waterborne paint, but I too know nothing of the process. i think it's a newer environmentally friendly thing, but I could be wrong....

It's a damn good gun for the money, I have a Finishline (not the same model) and IMO it can lay the paint down just as good as my favorite Sata.

I'm not familiar with the "Blue line" shown, but the Finishline 3 is a very good gun for the money. The next step up is about $300.
How about this gun? I found it at amazon and it seems that a lot of people gave good reviews.

I have that gun and like it alot. You can get it pretty cheap on ebay. People don't watch for PC spray guns like they do Sata and Devilbiss. I picked mine up brand new for under $50. It is my primer gun though so I can't say how it would spray a final finish. Works fantastic for my epoxy though.

Isn't it just water-based paint? as opposed to oil-based paint.

They're not painting cars with water-based paint now are they?

In California it was mandated by law in the 1990's; we had to get HVLP guns and get rid of the solvent based paints we had been using.

Yes just for base though. The clears are still solvent based. From the shops I have talked to they really like it. Really good color match, and easy to work with.

Holy Smokes! I didn't know that. :eek2:
What do they use to thin the paint for mixing, water?
The "made for waterborne" materials means that no parts that come in contact with the paint will rust. I have an earlier version of the DVB gun and it works great. But it must be used at higher than suggested psi to get a good finish coat. Apparently, much of the design of this and similar guns is a work around for California law.

I have a Sata Jet 3000 HVLP...love it.
I also have an older Sata Jet 90-2 for laying down sealer. I need to buy a new cheap primer gun.
You can see what i'd recommend. You don't want to skimp on something your going to be laying down base/clear with, for primer you can get away with a cheap gun.

I use an FLG3 as a primer cannon, & use a Plus & GTi for base & clear.

Which one do you prefer first for base & clear , the Plus or the GTi? What tip size do you use?
Looks like this devilbiss gun is ok as nobody had said something bad about it. I'm going for it.
Thanks for your feedbacks.
@pl silverado ... I too am in the opinion that Sata is a great gun. I'm moving from newbie to amateur for now and hopefully would consider this and the iwata on my next upgrade.

Don't forget to spray thinner through the gun after each use. :D
