Looks like each "face" has a different hardness to them and this is denoted by the "color" of each one! They are noting shore hardness http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Durometer in a range from D21 to D80. They are "Malleable" which I believe will "smoosh" and not hurt the thing that you are striking. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malleable If I got anything wrong please correct me!
Overall, I would assume you could use these hammer for striking different things with out (hopefully) hurting them; for example in engine rebuilding many people use brass hammers to not damage machined parts but still be able to strike them.
