WTB: Snap On Screwdrivers, Wrenches

I've been working as an apprentice at a Chrysler dealership for a few weeks now and I noticed two things. Craftsman screwdrivers and raised panel wrenches don't stand up to everyday abuse. My ratchets and sockets do fine but I need to upgrade. I am looking for a set of new or used Snap On Hard Handle Screwdrivers. I also would be interested in a set of Metric Snap On Wrenches. If anyone has anything let me know. They don't have to match or be the same color as long as they are sets (screwdrivers that is). Thanks.

My Craftsman professional #1 philips screwdriver looks razor thin. I thought it must be made of really strong steel then. It turned out to be made of newspaper. :mad: The bit was broken the first time I used them.

IMO, the Craftsman pro is worse than Stanley.

Why not just buy some Williams hard handles online? They are the same as the old style Snapon hard handle sets at a reasonable price! Williams is owned by Snapon! Buy 'em and be done! Here are a regular and a phillips set:

I probably would go with the Williams but my Snap On guy comes once a week and will warranty out any bad tools whatsoever. So for me working with them everyday and abusing them here and there I need something with a lifetime warranty.

Time to hit ebay, your fellow techs (you never know they may have been wanting to upgrade to the new "instinct" drivers!), the tool truck, flea market, or local pawn shops! Good luck!

I second the opinion that you should just probably surf ebay. I sold a bunch of loose/misc plastic handled stuff on here awhile back and it went pretty quick. Most people don't come up off it but I already had two sets. Ebay is your friend or find a tech selling some. Wrenches are never cheap.. cheaper on ebay than used but finding a set Ebay is probably the best bet. Or try your local craigslist. Sometimes you can find it on there. Don't be upset that these "old timers" aren't willing to give stuff to a kid starting out.... regardless of what you think everyone has put in the time to make the $$ to pay for their stuff. Thats just life. No offense meant.. :thumbup:

I would say do the payment plan on the truck, around $30.00 a week and they are new and you will have them paid off in no time!! Just do not go crazy on the truck at once!!

Don't expect the tool polishers to get rid of any of their shiny unused tools. They're too busy with the feather duster and besides, what would their friends say when they came over to admire their virgin collection and some tools were no longer in the foam cut outs in the tool box....:shocking:

The screwdrivers, maybe. But their wrenches work great.

I saw those, but on ToolTopia I could get an SK SuperKrome 15 pc set (8-22mm) for like $103.99 shipped to my door. Which I think is what i'll do for my wrenches but I'm still lookin for a good screwdriver set.

I like the SK polished wrenches but be aware that the set you are considering may not be the long pattern wrenches. I would get a longer length wrench than the SK standard length for your main set of wrenches. The long pattern wrenches are worth a few extra bucks.

I will second those Craftsman Pro wrenches. best bang for the buck out there. And you shouldn't really need the warranty... if you are breaking wrenches, you are probably doing it wrong!

Screwdrivers, go Snap On, no question. If you cannot afford to buy a set, just buy them one at a time here and there. That's what I have been doing....

I have a set of the standard length SK stuff.. 6-22mm and love em. No problems all. The C-man pros are also nice wrenches as mentioned. I've also seen pretty good prices on ebay (since your on a budget) for Mac long pattern sets, etc. I've been slowly gathering up a set of the long patterns one at a time just as a personal thing... vs buying a whole set new.

Lol "doing it wrong" Actually I have had an 8mm and a 17 mm raised panel C-Man wrench both flex on the open end of the wrench. The 8 happened when I was putting the wrench around a t-30 torx socket to get the drain plug of a cadillac loose because a standard ratchet wouldn't fit. The 17 happened on a set of bellhousing bolts on a galant.
