The ad says its free of any markings. It doesn't even look like it even has the size stamped. I would think these would not be warranted and they are similar to those made by Snap-on for different companies except with no logo. I gues you just have to take his word that they are what he says.

I think he will have a hard time selling many.

I have never run across a need for a 17mm wrench. Are those more common on Japanese cars or something?

All my 17mm wrenches still look brand new...

German and Japanese both use 17 mm. Very common size for most imports.

I thought the guy meant free of any personal markings. Why would the military want a 17mm wrench with no size or manufacturer's name on it?

the wrenches in his other auctions don't look like they have markings either, but it's hard to tell because of the flash.

Maybe the wrench is for military covert operations where incase the plane gets shot down the enemy won't know where the wrench came from. :spit:

They are Snap-on's wrenches for export to China, so the Chinese will not know they are buying foreign products.:bounce:

I've seen several Snap On military issue wrenches. These are not them.

There could be a million reasons for the why and for whom these were made; my guess is Snap-On Industrials Special Products Division. They will make pretty much any tool to order; including "Private Branding", orders for special industrial needs or manufacturing or pretty much anything you might need. My Theory is this was a order that was rejected, filled, overruns, left over industrial supplier stock or a contract ended; there could be a endless possibilities as to what happened. When I lived in Silicon Valley; all kinds of stuff (related to manufacturing of computer hardware) would show up at surplus warehouses and sold to the public. This was definitely "grey market" goods; it was a treasure trove of all kinds of unique and interesting things for the computer geek! I would assume this happens in the tool world as well; maybe Snap-On did not put their name on it as it would be used once and not warranted in a specific contract or laser marked for private branding or batch that was rejected (in this case wouldn't it be reclaimed and made into more tools)? I bet it was customer order or something like that; Snap-On special products sounds like a good possibility, tho!
