View Full Version : Will I be able to find this seal? (Craftsman jack)

I found a 3-ton leaking Cman jack on craigslist for $30.

I found it is leaking from where the "plunger" goes into the body. There is a plastic seal... I don't know exactly what you would call it... it is actually "U"-shaped, with the U pointing up. In the third picture you can see where it seats.

I read you can find pretty much any o-ring for a jack at a hydraulic supply house, but I don't know if this is really an o-ring or what.

Thanks.

Just looks like a regular expansion seal to me. I don't think you'll have any trouble getting one from a hydraulic shop.

NB Some people call those things "Quad-rings".

Sure you could, I use a company called Bayside Bearings for all my bearings and seals, Just call them up with the O.D., I.D. and thickness and they will get you a seal

Most of the jacks don't have seal kits from Sears but you can type in the model # off the jack and go to this site: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action?sid=PSHx20080114x00001
Most of the time they will just sell you a new ram and not rebuild parts.

But you'd be surprised by the amount of people out there that wouldn't be able to find a hydraulic shop or know what one is.

Shin Fu is the manufacturer of 90% of the hydraulic jacks and porto-power sets sold in the last 10 years. Blackhawkparts is a dstributor for them. The reason Sears and other companies don't sell jack parts any more is the liability and ambulance chasing lawers. If you cut a seal installing it and the jack falls, they don't want to be responsible.
