And I noticed that all their guns are IR composite.... but all their extensions, sockets and torq sticks are Grey Pneumatic. Huh... all made in Taiwan too. And they seemed to be in decent shape. Clearly used - likely abused, but damn if those Taiwan sockets don't hold up. Oh yeah, they did have a Snap On wheel weight fixture....

When i used to run a tyre shop i bought my two IR 2135s. When you're changing wheels and tyres all day, there's nothing better to work with than a 2135. They've got the power to take off even the most stubborn nuts and bolts, they've got a good balance so you can use them comfortably one-handed all day, they're light so it's not hard on your wrists and both my are QTi QuietTools, which certainly makes a difference when they're running for 8 hours a day.

They can't be beat.

Interesting ... the Discount Tire I go to use mostly older Snap On and Matco impact wrenches; sockets, torque bars, and torque wrenches are Snap On ..

I would say whoever is buying the tools for discount is looking out for the tire busters and the shop's bottom line. The tire busters get to use a decent impact that is lightweight, powerful, well balanced, and won't wear you out at the end of a long day of tires. The Grey Pneumatic stuff is top notch, very durable, has off corner engagement, can be warrantied, fairly inexpensive, and probably isn't as appealing as Snap on to sticky fingers. I don't care for their impact swivel sockets but, their other impact sockets are hard to beat.

Just curious: Where is Gray Pneumatic manufactured? It wasn't jumping out at my on their web page. Tried a search here, no dice...

Thx

HF, and others sell Taiwaneses/Chinese, import sockets that are the older thick wall design.

Grey, Sunex, etc, sell thinner wall design, foreign sockets.

Both are good, both have their uses, and I do see them both in professional shops, IMHO, the biggest aspect of these foreign ones is cost as they are pretty much unwarrantiable.

I have a HF, so I could walk in and maybe get those in, but for me, Grey and Sunex isn't local. If it breaks, it is being used and I need it.

I could mail it in, like I have to do with Snap on/off, but I have to wait for it. (IE time working verses downtime from lack of tool)
