Hello Everyone!

Found your great site on one of our other boards about some garage questions. Paid a visit and this place is a wealth of information.

I have been in the process of finishing up a garage at my home here in Howell, NJ. Its been almost 2 years in the making and its almost there. The hard parts is done. Just need to really do the electrical stuff and get the heat up and running...ohhh and some sheet rock on the celing. It has an upstairs that I have no idea what im going to do with it, but its there.

I know I will have alot of questions in the future.

Here are some pictures.....Its 40X50 with a full second floor.

I take it you're going to store your boats in there? Holy jesus that's big. You could fit a couple of pool tables on the top floor for sure.

wooooah. that would be my house, right there. a nice 50/50 split between garage and living space. The 2nd floor would be more that enough space for me to live by myself

that's great... you're going to have a great game/"I'd better not try to sneak in the house because it's 3am" room.

Wow, great garage. I'm planning to build a garage in the spring, something similiar to yours.
What are the specs on the I beams? Are they 40' or 50' long? Thanks

The specs. on the I-Beams are W18 X 40. The "40" means the weight of the beam per foot. They are 39 feet long. They are 7 1/2 inches wide also. I hope this helps.

Scott,
I was just looking at the picture showing the radiant heating elements and was struck by the number of tubes going up to what I guess is going to be your manifold. How many zones do you have in that system? I've always understood that you would have two pipes for each zone, one for supply and one for return. If in fact that's correct it looks like you must have 10 zones for that beast..???

Ruby,
Yes I planed for it to be a pull through for my boat restorations. It will make it a little easier.

Andy,
Yes you are correct, One is supply and the other is return. There are 8 zones that have about 244 foot runs each. There is also 8 inches of concrete poured over the tubes. Should take awhile to heat up but once its there it will be great. I still need to get the boiler set-up and run the stack. I also plan on putting radiant heat on the 2nd floor. Also I have not yet run water to the building. This past 6 months have been crazy and I just havent had the time. I hope to tighten everything up in the early spring. I just finished staining the building last month. I also need to finish the ceder on the walkway to the 2nd floor.

Ruby,
The water to the building is for a sink and bathroom etc. It will also supply the boiler as some water will be lost over time when the heat is on. Even though you have a closed system like you would in a house with baseboard you still need some sort of water supply to feed the system. Does this make cence? Hope this helps.

Here are so pictures. The last one is the foam barrier that separates the slab from the block walls. This is done so that the heat from the slab isnt lost up the walls.

I just registered on the site and this is the first garage I've looked at here. All I can say is WOW!!! We'll be building a new house in a couple years and plan on having a heated garage for 2 or 3 cars with a wash bay and lots of room. I hadn't thought of a drive-thru, but I like that.
