Have you guys ever tried Propel/?

I live on that stuff. I get the 16.9 ounce bottles and then I get the powdered refill packs that are specifically measured for the 16.9 ounce bottles. I get the refill water from the Clovis water store.

I've never tried it. I used to tease my daughter about it when she brought it home. I told her the name "Propel" sounded like it should be a laxative.

Clovis has a water store? I don't think I have ever seen a water store.

Yeah, you walk in there you'll see a stainless steel counter with a grate that drains the excess water and a whole row of long neck faucets for filling up your bottles. Behind the wall is a room full of tanks and water conditioning equipment.

Like a mechanic would ever buy a drink or food off a truck that just pulls up to the backdoor. That would be insane.

So, do you bring in gallon jugs? How much does it cost?

Do they have different grades of water?

Sorry for the questions...I have obviously seen the water vending machines at the supermarket, but I have never seen a retail business dedicated to selling water. I find the concept fascinating.

You bring your own jugs or they have some there to sell you. This water is no where near what you'd get at a supermarket machine; this water is delicious! They have a whole room full filtering equipment and plumbing going back and forth to all the different stages of filtering. The cost is $0.25 a gallon.

I regularly buy cases of bottled spring water at the store in small bottles for about $4 for a case of 24. It supposedly comes from an actual spring near Mt. Shasta.

I have also seen the higher prices on some of the brands, including the Coke & Pepsi versions.

I am becoming concerned about the quality of my well water for drinking due to a variety of factors, although it's probably a little late to start worrying, as I have been drinking it for 22 years.

Mt. Shasta is more like Mt. St. Tap Water. A lot of bottled water is standard municipal tap water with no additional filtration. Instead of being sent into the main distribution system, it gets bottled. One of the Chicago TV News investigative reports was about bottled water and how it's such a ripoff.

I just got my water bill today. $19.11 for 5,000 gallons. Add in sewer ($16.24), trash collection ($15.09), hydrant surcharge ($3.80), and sales tax ($1.34) and the total bill is about $56. Makes me curious what other people pay a month for water and sewer. We use the ice and water dispenser on our refrigerator all the time. It takes a $39 filter which gets replaced about once a year give or take.

According to Crystal Geyser, their water is bottled at the spring source, I dunno.

I don't pay anything for water, except for the power I use to pump it out of the ground. No sewers or fire hydrants here. Trash collection is $23/mo.

I'm on spring water in the beautiful Pennines - but there's a thing in the deeds that says we can't bottle and sell it on... the builder probably worried we'd go up against Perrier.

Moose - I read somewhere that every cup of water in London has "been through thirteen people" before it comes out of the tap...

My bill is usually around $90.00-$100.00 a month. And we do not use that much water. It is just my wife and I and then the apartment.

This is why people are moving out of Michigan... crappy economy and an artificially high cost of living.

USA has safe water everywhere, some tastes great, some not so great, but water safety is NOT an issue in the USA. Mexico has all sorts of "things" in the tap water and nobody drinks it without boiling, so now all over the USA we have water stores selling filtered water to the foolish and ignorant. Its reverse osmosis and carbon filtered which removes both chlorine and fluoride, so its LESS safe than tap water, but may taste better.

When you say "safe water everywhere" and refer to municipal water supplies in the USA, I would agree. Not everyone in the USA is on a municipal water system though.

In my case, my drinking water comes from my well. It is about 90' deep and is located 30 feet or so from the gravel road in front of my home, which used to be the Southern Pacific Railroad right-of-way for the main line that ran through here. The tracks were removed in the 1950s.

About 600 feet away is the site of a former store and gas station that burned down about 15 years ago. The fuel tanks had been leaking for God knows how long, and cleanup has been ongoing at the site for several years. The final phase of running an air circulation system to reduce hydrocarbons to an "acceptable" level has just been finished.

1000 feet away is a small school that is also on a well, and due to elevated nitrate levels the district is required to maintain a chlorinator system. The chlorine level in the water is tested and recorded daily, and audited on a regular basis by the state.

1/4 mile away is a wrecking yard that is listed as a toxic site.

Nearby orchards and rice fields are treated with pesticides regularly.

For these reasons, I am concerned about my drinking water quality.

That's not even considering the Koppers fiasco, but they claim those toxins never made it this far.

For $3.50, I could buy a little bottle of Bourbon and tear stuff up for way more than 5 hours...but I guess that wouldn't be "professional".

Better to get the mechanic's daily dose off the truck. I dunno, I tried a Jolt Cola once and felt like my head was going to explode. And I drink two pots of coffee a day. :wtf:

It's all about marketing. He doesn't give you a lollipop, but he knows you want one. He hopes you will buy $2K in tools for the chance to get a lollipop like the rest of the guys.
