View Full Version : Help me make a decision about screwdriver bits

I never bought screwdriver bits on purpose. However, I have three sets now. They all came from tool sets or screwdriver sets. They are made by SK, Craftsman, and Gearwrench, respectively
My question is which two sets I should throw away? :headscrat
Thank you!

Crazy idea but why not keep them all?
Throw them all away and invest in Wera or Wiha bits

My tool box is too small. I won't throw them away. I have a teenager buddy. He usually accepts whatever tools that I want to get rid of.

I've never given tools away simply because I didn't have room for them.
I'm sure your friend will appreciate them.

The S-K bits I have are as good as Snap-on bits, IMO.
The craftsman bits I didnt care for too well. No experiance with gearwrench bits.

No kidding... just throw them in a peanut butter jar or something.

If your toolbox is too small to have room for two extra sets of screwdriver bits, throw the toolbox away, and keep the bits.

That's different than throwing tools away. Paying tools forward is cool

I agree with these guys - what's wrong with putting them in a ziploc and finding a nice quiet corner for the extras? If one of the discarded sets has a particular size that you need immediately one day, you're not going to be happy.

Cool. Thank you all for the suggestions. I will leave my SK in my toolbox and put away the other two sets under my bed. :willy_nil

All bits wear out with sufficient use, thats why for pro use they sell like 25 of the same tip in a box. Many times the difference between stripping the head and using a remover is to start with a brand new high quality bit (plus a few tricks like valve grinding compound to decrease slip). For me especially with the philliips bit wear happens FAST, and even a TINY amount of rounding seriously reduces the grip and increase the chance of cam out.

whenever your unscrewing a screw in metal put the bit on and belt it with a hammer, this not only seats the bit but shocks the threads and normally they come out. Also tighten them a bit before undoing them, same with bolts.

The bits from Snap-on are Zephyr; look for the circle Z.

I can't tell you that for sure; so far all the Zephyr bits I've got are from Snap-on. If I need more bits in the future, I'll have to find me a direct source for Zephyr.

I have been using the Zephyr bits from Snap On, thinking that they were APEX bits. They aren't. In fact, they are just okay.
I need to try some actual APEX bits next....
