I would prefer at least 3/4 horse. I would also prefer american made. If that's not the best out there what is?

I would appreciate the input.

I have an old Sears Craftsman 8" 3/4 horse that my dad gave me, that he found at a garage sale. If you are looking for those specs in an American made unit - and are patient - I would look for something at moving/estate sale or perhaps ebay. Other than that, you are looking at a lot of $$$$ for a Baldor....

Comp, welcome to theboard!

yes they are VERY high but pretty much agreed upon as being the best bench grinders you can buy. You can still get part for grinders that are 50+ years old, And its not uncommon for guys to be running grinders older than that. The shop has 2 of them that are older than I am but will still grind anything down to nothing damn fast.
