Are you going to live "in" it? I think it needs a tv, stereo, computer, microwave and washer/dryer as well! :)

it's so excessive, but honestly, $12,500 is a good price, considering retail..

Wow. Just...wow.
I built my 32x40 shop for less than that thing retails for.
My general rule of thumb is that if I'm going to spend anywhere near that much money on something, I better be able to make love to my wife in it.

Boy, that would piss the chiefs off. They already want to limit the size of toolboxes (mine would be too big). They've even mentioned matching community toolboxes. Yeah right, half the workforce threatened to quit if they did that.
They already learned one lesson. It took them 8 months to reimburse me for a 1/2" Craftsman torque wrench they broke while calibrating it. I promptly took my 4 torque wrenches, micrometers, calipers, and fluke meter home. A week after, the company is out of working torque wrenches in the size needed, and they waited for me to get there because I had the torque wrench to do it. Sorry guys, keyword there is HAD. I took all my calibratable tools home when you screwed me, remember?:lol_hitti
I told them if they made me get a smaller toolbox, I was going to get a 26" craftsman cabinet only, and only keep the tools that would git in it at work, and everything else would go home. I'm not playing that game.

Don't blame you. What a load of crap! Micro-management at its worst....

They want everything to look uniform, and to get as few boxes as possible around (which I partially understand with 500 mechanics). The problem is, nobody is going to take care of tools that aren't theirs, some will steal them, there will be no place for specialty tools. Also, how many guys want to use the same tool for the same job? Not that many. When you start making all mechanics to conform to the same set of given tools, it's not going to be pretty. I want MY box and MY tools to work with.

Too small, I would need two of them to fit what I have int his box.

Exactly. They're going to shit themselves when they see the astronomical cost to provide 500 mechanics with Snap-On boxes stocked with Snap-On tools, anyway. I have an easy $20k invested, with a large chunk of Craftsman.

Yes, they already did it on the factory side. Electronic Snap-On boxes. Have to scan a badge to open each drawer. Can't open one drawer until you close the other and scan again, etc.

The problem with management specifying a set of tools is that they will leave out half the tools needed to do the job. If the documentation doesn't say you need it, you won't have it.
Here's what I think about management and documentation writers. :moon::fawk:
What's next? Matching Hazet coveralls and singing the company song?

When I worked in the test lab many years ago, we all had matching Kennedy box's with a standard load of tools all supplied by the company. There was a guy who ran the tool crib and if you needed special tools for a job he gave them to you.

The last shop I worked in, one guy had 3 boxes lined up like the 2 center boxes in that pic, with big KNAACK cabinets hanging on each end, painted SNap-On red to match the others...when the company came through and asked the techs what the replacement cost of their tools and boxes was, for the insurance company, he came up with something like $130K.

I'm told that Lexus service departments all have uniform boxes now, provided by the company. The other serivce departments at the dealership where I used to work are headed in the same direction, and the techs are having a fit. The tool truck guys aren't happy either, because the new boxes are coming from a corporate account and the local dealer isn't making any money on the deal.

If I was working there on jets, I'd be wanting them to provide me with a full set of 1/4" drive 12 point flex sockets with long extensions.

on the original topic the box, I love it. I have always wanted to go for either the green, yellow or cranberry boxes as not onyl do i like them but no one will steal them as unlike the usual red or black they will be hard to get rid of.
the audi dealer etc round here have the company supplied boxes, not sure abotu the tools though

I worked next to a guy at the Volvo dealership here in town who had this setup, in black.
There was easily enough room, Brad. Go ahead and grab one.

And on the subject of uniform, built-in toolboxes, here's where work. They're big enough. Barely. Mine's pretty packed.
The shop is much larger than it looks. 36 bays, so you're looking at about an eighth of it in the second picture.

If I spent that much money on a tool box, the opportunity would NOT present itself. At the tool box, or anywhere else for that matter!

'Sure' brand, actually. Not really designed for toolbox use. Like Lista, they're more intended for heavy-duty storage similar to a parts department.
But they work just fine for $0 per week. ;)
