Is this a typo?
"Maximum torque with muffler is 100 ft. lb."

I have never installed the muffler that came with my MG725 but I am fairly sure that is a typo.

MG725 comes with the muffler kit?
my MG31 did not.

to lower the SPL of an that gun to 85db you would have to reduce the output to 100' lbs :bounce:

Yes, my MG 31 did not come with a muffler and I was unaware there was one available for it.

I'm always taking mufflers off of air tools; I like the increased power with the tool's ability to breath better.

The information is not a typo. Nothing is free. Everything comes with a cost. The increased back pressure from the muffler reduces the tool torque rating.

Huh... my MG725 cam with some mesh that I installed in the handle to control the noise... I don't know if it is the same as the above mentioned muffler kit. I will say that even with the mesh installed in the handle, my MG725 still runs like a raped ape!

Thats the muffler that is in question.

I am very reluctant to believe that a little piece of mesh and a perforated cover is going to whittle a 810 ft. lb impact down to 100 ft. lb....I believe snap-on intended to say that the muffler will reduce torque by 100 ft. lb.

That would make more sense.... even with the muffler (which I CANNOT believe is worth anywhere NEAR $8.xx!!!!) my MG725 is plenty loud and definitely well over 100 ft/lbs strong.

Sorry, you are correct, that would be a typo if it dropped it down to 100#. Your reading is how I interpreted it (by 100#). It reduces the torque rating. Even reduced by 100# it is a nice tool.

I can vouch for that. I didn't know what I was missing before I bought one. Now, if I had an IR 2135 or something, would I buy the MG725... probably not. But I decided to go with one because my dealer got me a good deal and I was looking for a "real" gun. My dealer can also service it locally shoyld it ever need anything....

As am i reluctant to beleve it will bring the noise level to anywhere near 85DB

that's a typo, i think they meant to type 800...
muffler kits come with the mg725 but not with the mg31 although they are available for the mg31

They probably don't have to figure in the banging on a fastener, just the running tool, like that is how it is used...:(
