Steal or no steal?

Just got back from the local fleamarket with two tools, a radio, and a box of old books. Total cost- $35

Breakdown

Knipex Alligator Pliers NIP 7" - $10
Knipex Alligator Pliers NIP 10" - $15
Radio (replaced the radio in a family car that was tape/am, with a chrysler infinity unit w/ cd player) $5

I havent looked them all up, but one book alone (The Mudge Pond Express by Sam Posey) is selling for $84 on Amazon.

automotive books can generally be sold easily as there is always someone interested in any given automotive subject

A steal in deed. I would have jumped on the Knipex Alligator Pliers for sure and the books.

I have sold some stuff on Amazon before mostly VHS and DVD. It is real easy to list stuff and they don't take a cut until the item sells. Plus the Amazon gives you money for shipping. It sucks for most books though because they only give a few dollars. You can get a lot better price on Amazon. A book that sells for $75 on Amazon might not sell at all on eBay. I see that a lot with DVDs and VHS tapes. The markets are different.

$26 is what that pair of pliers with a Craftsman brand cost on sale a couple weeks ago.

OTOH books can be quite profitable. I used to buy a lot of used books, and ran into several people that made a living just buying and selling.

The Donohue "Unfair Advantage" is an excellent book - regarded as one the very best motorsport biographies. A first ed is quite sought-after. (There is an update with some post-73 update material - presumably available at a more reasonable price for those more interested in reading than speculating!). Very much one of my favorite books, read several times.

I know a handful of specialist (motorsport) bookdealers here in the UK - one prominent one told me several years back that one of his regular customers - a heavyweight financial adviser - had stopped putting money into his pension and was investing in motoring and motorsports books instead...

I don't think that Frank Gardner one is too easy to find either.
