So my curiosity is getting the best of me and I want to see what all the fuss is about. What would you recomend for my first purchase? I want a ratchet, probably 3/8ths"

Had my eye on the FC936 for a while. (3/8 in 1/4 body)
But wondering if i should get a more "standard" 3/8ths instead

Shoot me some recomendations... of if you have an extra you would be willing to part with that would be a gateway tool for me let me know what you've got.

My current collection includes

Proto Big Dawg 1/4, 3/8, 1/2
Craftsman pro thin 1/4 (my favorite)
Standard crappy craftsman 3/8, 1/2
Stanley el cheapo round head 3/8
Proto pear shaped 1/4 (broken-need rebuild kit)

Thanks for the advice in advance!

You cant go wrong with trying a F80, Its the typical size 3/8 drive ratchet so it should be a pretty good benchmark to compare your other ratchets to.

you need to look at what you use the most. I would think that you want to get either a 1/4 drive or 3/8 drive ratchet. you may also want to look at a small set of wrenches. most people use the 3/8 to 3/4 wrenches the most. for the wrenches you could look at used to save some money and still get some decent tools

i'll second the f80 since you stated you want a ratchet and probably 3/8.

That's a pretty specalized ratchet that you either won't use too often (& then think you wasted your money) or, will apply too much torque (causing damage & then you'll think the quality is bad, it's not) & mot really be happy. I would recommend the new dual80 if you're going with the Snap On.

Sounds like most agree on the 80s, would you go with the standard length F80 or the extended FL80.

I had heard rave reviews about the the FC936 being alot of guys go to ratchet. I dont abuse tools and thought it looked promising.

Still up in the air, anyone else?

X3 on a Dual 80 ratchet of whatever type/style/drive size you think you use the most; I also would recommend the old school hard handle ratcheting screwdriver! I would assume with either tool; it will be love at first use! :)

The Classic Snap-On Screwdriver, Ratcheting Magnetic, Standard, Black, 8 3/4"
Stock#: SSDMR4B $56.75
This is a classic tool; loved by many... it is the standard by which all others are judged, widely copied but rarely matched! This was one of my first tools from Snap-On that started my appreciation for the Snap-On brand; a really nice design, terribly functional and will quickly become one of your "go to", tools in your arsenal!

Will they be offering the dual 80 in a 1/2" drive eventually?

The FLF80 you'll buy next pretty much takes the place of an FL80.

I would buy a dual 80 series 3/8" drive long handle flex head ratchet. That would most complement what you already have.

All great suggestions posted above.

Here's my .02 based on frequency of use:

1-Ratcheting screwdriver - already suggested by Billymade
2-F80 or FLF80 - so sweet to use in the hand
3-If you use a torque wrench frequently you might want to get a 3/8 or 1/2 flex-head techwrench or techangle torque wrench in the size you will use most. Awesome is the only word that comes to mind.
