Luke: How about somewhere on the board where machine manuals, drawings, prints, plans and the like could be available, kinda like a library? For example a guy today posted that he wants plans for a Hyd Press. You might have a copy in that section. Whaddaya think. :headscrat

That's kinda what I hoped the "How To's" section would be used for.

I guess what I was thinkin was this, instead of having to scroll through all the posts to find or run across plans for something you are interested in, you would open a section on the site that might have articles or plans that would be in a set place and not moving all the time.

A stickied post at the top of the 'How To' section would be a good way to catalogue those posts which contain plans, detailed instructions etc. A short description "How to build a Hydraulic Press" with a link to the thread would save a lot of extra searching.

This is what I proposed to Luke in a PM to him. I moderate a Cessna 150/152 technical forum for the Cessna 150-152 Club (access restricted to members) and what we had to do is create a special forum called "Tech FAQs" These are essentially articles, written by myself or others that completely and throughly cover one subject, with links and references in it. We take all the information we can find on one particular subject (such as the various different types of aftermarket auxiliary fuel tanks that are available for our airplanes) and provide all the manufacturers links. information on each different alternative, pros and cons, whys, wherefores, and how tos, and place it in ths forum, It is read only, no posting possible except by the forum moderators. If someone has corrections or additional information, they PM the moderator who edits the info into the FAQ. These are, as much as possible, written in a FAQ fashon.

We are titling each "post" of the FAQs using a standardized format, such as "Fuel System - Long Range Tanks" or "Electrical System - Alternator Field Circuit Troubleshooting".

The downside to this is that someone has to compile all of this informaton and write it into some way that makes sense, its alot of work.

The placing of manuals and similar information on such a forum is a real problem, as most of it is copyrighted and it would be illegal to place it on the forum.
