Saw the SO dealer yesterday. We got to talking about odd/vintage tools and he pulled out an M-70M and asked if I knew what it was. Even though I never had one in my hand before I did and even decoded the G date code for him.

He said no one else he showed it to knew what it was. I guess it was a test because he gave it me! I really felt bad about accepting it and tried to decline. But when I got off the truck and looked at my purchases there it was.

So, I am a proud owner of a 45 9/32 SO. Thank you, Brad.

It's marked "MIDGET M-70M"

Sorry about the poor picture quality but my camera is very old and not suited to this type of photography. Neither am I.

that's pretty cool. Don't feel bad about accepting it. He was probably happy to give it to someone that would appreciate it.

No kidding. Imagine all the folks he sees throughout the day who could care less... :(

Did he sneak it into your shopping bag or something? Sorry for the dumb question; I'm just trying to make sense of what you said.

He probably gave him a box or something with all his stuff in it.. tossed the receipt and the ratchet in the box when he wasn't looking and whalaa!

Seriously... awesome. Sounds like a GREAT S/O guy. Anyone who'd take the time to say.. hey you recognize this? You are into old S/O stuff... and then give it to you. Kinda neat. I'd be curious to know how he came by it. Either way.. good stuff! Man that sucker is little!

Yes, he just slipped it in a box - not a dumb question at all. Shows you're paying attention.

Among the items purchased was a SSDMRT4 red T-handle ratchet screwdriver. He just slipped it in the box and I didn't see him do it. Guess I was dazzled by all the shiney sparkly chrome. That is a really nice driver by the way.

Yes, he is a very cool guy. I gave him this site address and suggested he join.

I'm hoping not but I have a serious weakness for tools. And in person this is just so cool.

As I understand it a widow called SO and asked if they were interested in buying her late husbands tools. They sent him since it was his territory he made a deal with her and this was included.

Your SO dealer was probably feeling guilty for charging you full retail over the years with your purchases and hoped to clear his mind (and get a good nights sleep) by giving you that ratchet.:lol_hitti

If he joins, I would like to ask how those used tools are handled, with their "official" warranty statement, being for the life of the original owner.
Seems to me that Corporate and their legal team would get in a dispute about that.

This was the third time I've met him. Why shouldn't he charge list it's how he makes his living.

Hopefully he will join to ask. Perhaps Pedro can answer.

Most of the tool guys I have met are good guys. They are just trying to make a living just like everyone else. There are allways bad apples no matter what profession you list. If I did not like the dealer I would no do business with them. I am a cop, look what type of wrap we get. I am sure that there is someone who thinks that I am a butt head even though I think I am very laid back and easy to get along with. Just my 2cents worth.
