I am having a problem with my garage door. I just moved into a new place and the button on the wall will not work. It is lit up but when you push it, nothing happens. Sometime you can hold it down for a while and then it will work. The remote in the car works just fine to open/close the door. One sensor at the bottom of teh door is green and the one on the other side is red. The sensor that is red will blink periodically. Also, when you hit the wall button, it goes from red to not lit up at all. Could there just be a problem with the wiring from the switch to the motor or something with the sensor that is red? Please help. thanks

Garage door buttons are generally pretty cheap devices, so it certainly could be worn out. You should be able to see where the button hooks to the terminal strip on the side of the door opener itself. Find that, and try jumpering across the terminals with a short piece of wire to see if the door goes up and down like it should. Then, trace the wire back to the button to see if there are any breaks, if it's pinched by a staple, etc. If that all looks good, chances are it's the button. They're usually just doorbell buttons that you can get at any hardware store for a few bucks.

Unhook the button and touch the wires together if it works good there it is likely the button. If it does the same thing you have a wiring problem.
