I am looking to put a 100 amp sub panel in my shop. I measured the distance with a wheel and came up with from my main panel to where I want the sub panel, 145 feet.
I know I'll have to put in at least 1 pull box/LB.
What size wire would I need? I am hoping to do this with 1 1/2" conduit, schedule 40, possible??
I know I'll have to be 18" down, and while I am at it, I am planning on doing an additional conduit (3/4") for RG6 & CAT 5.
Thanks for any input!
Mike

Considering the distance I would be looking at number 1 alum or 2 copper, you should go to 2 inch. If you could live with a bit less than 100A, most garages could if not a great deal of welding was going on number 2 alum would deliver 70A with acceptable V drop. I believe you need to be at 24 inches.

Just had my ditch inspected, it was ok to be 18 inches deep but where it crossed the driveway it had to be 24 inches deep and that was at the top of the conduit.

Ther is a posibility depending on where it comes out of the ground that you will need schecule 80 going from grade if you are mounting it externally. If it is coming out of the slab and into a stud space, you probably wont need to.

Depending upon temp rise and insulation, you can use either 3, 2 or 1 AWG if copper
or 2, 1, or 1/0 alum. You should no problems with conduit fill for 1-1/2" with any of these.
I use copper wherever possible and I don't like alum.`
