I've seen and handled Craftsman's Comfort Screwdrivers (http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00947127000P) in-store a few times, and I've got to say, they feel absolutely wonderful!
I already have a sets of Craftsman's standard screwdrivers, so I cannot really justify buying any more. Another huge drawback is the fact that these drivers are only sold in sets, so warranty exchanges on single drivers would be difficult.

You're right, they do have a good feel to them. I think their shanks are the same as their standard screwdrivers though, correct?

That's what they look like to me. I cannot say about the hard plastic part of the handles, but comparing these with standard drivers in-store, the shanks and tips look identical.

For warranty I think they just pull out a single screwdriver from one of the sets. Maybe billymade can clarify this.
The Craftsman pro screwdrivers before these black/red ones had a very similar handle design. They were popular with members here. They were all black rubber (not rubber sleeves over the plastic handle)

you failed to mention the most important point - they are on sale for $13!!!!!!
How did you justify buying all those german/swiss screwdrivers then?:lol_hitti

I can't believe you said that on THIS forum. :D

German, Swiss, Czech, and USA brande drivers, Craftsman Pros, two sets of Weras, one set of Wiha, two Wiha full-size drivers to sample the different handles, one set of PB Tools' drivers, and a single PB Tools driver for the different handle sampling, to be exact.
The justification is simple - I purchased for comparison and review purposes. I wanted to focus on styles that were not readily available for most people to physically handle and try out. That, and I forgot all about these drivers! :lol_hitti:lol_hitti
It's also about opportunity cost. $13 I could spend on these comfort drivers when I already know how the review would come out, vs. $13 on a new tool that would attract more interest, or a tool/accessory that I have a more urgent need for.

Did you not see the pile of tools I have on my "to be broken in" checklist?!!
At this point I think I have more unique #2 Philips drivers than I have fingers!!

Sometimes, they will "break" a packed set to warranty a screwdriver, YMMV! They also, might order them from the catalog and send them to you in the mail, free of charge. At this point, I believe the shanks are the same as the clear handled screwdrivers... I cannot recommend them for durability; IMHO... look elsewhere! Buy the Craftsman Pro screwdrivers if you want a screwdriver with the Craftsman name on it that will be a durable screwdriver and last with consistent use.... I have become disillusioned with with standard Craftsman screwdrivers at this point! The quality just isn't there anymore! :( Sad, but true! The continual warranty exchanges we do on a daily basis attests to this issue...

Ditto that... I'd stick with the C-man pro drivers so you at least get a tip/shank that will hold up. Doesn't matter how well it feels in your hands if you can't get a screw out because the soft metal tip deforms or breaks under use.

Unfortunately, I think you're right. When I buy used tools I very very rarely run into a newer model used Cman screwdriver that doesn't need to be exchanged. They work for light duty stuff just fine, but they have their limits.

How do you guys destroy the standard Cman screwdrivers? I have an 8 year old set that survived my learning experiances of using for every application you can think of from: Scraper, chisel, punch prybar, pin and occasionally even being used as screwdrivers. Then I have a two year old set that I have used a lot in the garage and occasionally on jobs when I needed a certain sized screwdriver not available to me at the job and they have held up perfectly.
The one thing that they could change on them is to go to anti-camout tips though.

Where are the 'standard' and 'pro' Craftsman's made (same factory, same manufacturer?)
Here in Canada we don't get the same Craftman tools as you guys (95% is China junk.. and I'm not just saying that because it is China). We don't have the same screwdrivers either..
This is our Craftsman 'Pro':

Which looks like Chinese junk to me.
We also have the standard ones, which are made in Canada (nice!)
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41MCtfsjtJL._SS500_.jpg
Not sure how good they are though (Canadian opinions?). I do like the hard handles.
So I'm assuming from this post that Craftsman standard in CAN and the US are both 'just fair'.. both are made in thier own country but looks to be the same design and materials (junky Chinesse steel?).
Billymade, any idea if I buy Craftsman from the US and take it back to Canada how the warrenty claims work? Can I take it back to a CAN store and have them mail it back and mail me a new one from the US? (LONG shot but can't hurt to ask).
