Bahco

Hi, first off like to say hi to everyone:), new to site and forums.
does anyone own any Bahco tools? If so , are they any good? The ones made in USA. I realize they are part of the J.H Williams group, which I guess these days is all part of snap on. They look good online, but as I am in Canada and in northern Ontario, we don't have any distributors here for me to hold. Plus I managed to do my research and find a few nice products for great price even considering the exchange rate and shipping. was considering the 3/8" & 1/2" sockets and the 16 piece sae combination wrench set. Now I am not an auto mechanic, rather I am a Millwright, will these things take the abuse? I currently have like 2-3 sets mismatches from over the years. Had my whole top chest with all my proto & Gray(canada) sockets and wrenches stolen many years back out of my truck on a shutdown and never replaced them with full sets.....and I am considering a change over to the machine building sector and would like a nice set if I do so, but also tough enough for the abuse i do on them in heavy maintenance, without breaking me here. The prices of tools in Canada is retarded and much less competition.
Any help be appreciated:)

ps. does anyone think the old cman 1/2 drive's were made by armstrong, because i saw 1 other day and it was ancient but a beauty and very comfortable( always liked the armstrong ratchets) and this one loked like the style armstrong made and still makes

I have used bahco quite a few times although don't own any Bahco tools.

The tools were used heavy on HGV's.

I would buy their stuff happily.

Bahco is part of Snap-On and old Belzer. A lot of Bahco tools are sold by snap-on for a much higher price!
Stuff is ok, just watch for the fine teeth ratchets...

I have some wrenches, which are super shiny and seem to work just fine. I also have a couple of ratchets that are shiny, but feel notchy and primitive, and I rarely find myself reaching for the ratchets.

I have their 3/8" and 1/2" socket sets, as well as a set of screwdrivers. I use them everyday at work.

Overall, good quality (much better than Craftsman). I recommend. :thumbup:

I have a complete set of Bahco SAE wrenched; excellent quality and I highly recommend them .. :bounce:

I have an SAE wrench set too and I really like it. The handles are really thick which makes them feel very comfortable and look very sturdy. The finish is nice too.
I'm mostly using my metric stuff though, so I can't really tell you how well they hold up under heavy abuse.

Since your a Canadian; have you considord a native Canadian tool company like Gray Tools? I don't have any but everyone seems to think they are quality stuff....

AFAIK armstrong never made any ratchets for CMAN. they have been made by hinsdale, new brittan, duro/indestro and moore drop forge/easco/danaher.

I have two Bahco small-size screwdrivers, and the quality is pretty good but I hate the handle style.

My Bahco items are adjustable ("crescent") wrenches made in Sweden, and they are very prominently marked as the inventor of the adjustable wrench. Sort of like they have an attitude about it.

Seem to be high quality, black oxide and bare steel, not chromed.

I think I have the same SAE wrenches that these guys have. They seem well built and sturdy. The handles are rounded and very comfortable. The finish is very nice. Never tried the sockets but I'm sure they are good. I would avoid the ratchets.

I like and use some of their ratchets, and their sockets are as good as any make.
Bahco pliers are pretty good, French made, but not in the same class as Knipx, and their dikes are not even close to Klein.

they were Bahco branded and stamped made in usa. I was considering some williams but after reading in these forums, I went back and looked at them, they are the china ones, sure they are ok and made to williams standards, but not paying N American prices on Asian produced

Yes I have considered them, they are awesome tools:). actually my most favorite chisel and best chisel I ever owned was a 1 1/4' flat chisel, that sucka couldn't lose its edge, I inherited it from my grampa.....he had used it for many many years....then i used it for like 15 years myself(was part of tools that were stolen). but they are very expensive brand new and finding them used is not so easy, although i have a few mismatched jumbo wrenches(garage sales) from them. I'll pay the prices on a punch/chisel set but not the prices on their sockets , wrenches

Bahco makes excellent adjustable wrenches. I like them because you can flip the jaw around and it works like a pipe wrench.

Overstock dot com has the Bahco long pattern combo wrench sets, USA made, for decent prices. I have a set of these, the thick shanked ones, and they work quite well.

Here's a couple pictures of my 3/8" BAHCO sockets.

Keep in mind, I have a mixture of Williams, Snap-On, Matco, SK and Bahco sockets at work, and actually use the chrome sockets with an impact (only do this at work, since the use of an impact is very rare).

Out of all the brands above, I trust only the Bahco and Snap On sockets on an IR impact wrench. All the others have become busted atleast once.

I have a pair of Bahco/Sandvik loppers - they're sweet - I can cut PVC pipe cleanly with them. :thumbup:
