SO would be CRAZY to not warranty stuff that the customer sends in. I mean- it probably costs them 1/10th of retail price for most tools. The bad word of mouth from them NOT honoring legitimate warranty claims would cost them alot more than replacing a few tools.... IMHO.

I think I've got 1 or 2 broken SO tools, I'm gonna see how the OP fares and then send them in if he gets good service.

Thanks wrenchr. I'm also eagerly awaiting the results. I had called them a couple of weeks ago and got the "truck only" answer. However, they at least gave me the name and phone number of a guy in my area. Waiting to give him a call 'till I also have something to buy, though...

I did! LOL! :)
I have a box of Snap-On warranty tools I have had for years; if I could turn this box of stuff into usable tools; would be a major step forward in my Snap-On tool set! :) Plus, not having to ask and get refused from my dealer; would be priceless! :)

they may deny the warranty and just ship the same tools back, which would suck.

We will see what happens, if you have a decent experiance I may try that route rather than the whole procedure of trying to flag down a dealer who may or may not deal with me.

They do it to dealers too. Whatever tools the dealer has warrantied that they deem as abused are not covered by warranty. The dealer foots the cost of your replacement out of pocket at that point. Thats why some dealers are hesitant to warranty stuff if your not a regular customer.

Keep that in mind next time you take a 50 year rusted out tools to your dealer and expect a brand new one in return.

I keep hearing this same line. Is it true or some BS the dealer keeps shoveling out to his customers that he would rather not bother with???

No it's definitely true. I worked for a dealer a couple years back, i did the restocking, inventory and i handled shipping back broken tools and there was always some that came back that weren't covered.

They are very strict about the way they do business and representation of the company as a whole. I mean, they should be. They did survive the great depression and make a business out of it. They'll like fare better than the big 3 automotive companies through this next recession/depression.

What was wrong with the ratchets and did they upgrade you to current models on older model tools? Also, any included documentation? Any info appreciated! :)

wrenchr

There is a warranty slip included.
The ratchet ranged from chrome peeling to floppy head and a cracked handle.
It is all new and nothing was repaired.

Is that soft grip a 1/2"drive? I want to reach in through my screen and grab it!! No I don't want to keep it - I just want to squeeze it - I'm desparate to get my hands on one of those and squeeze it. :)

Make sure you include a list of everything inside the box and the reason you can not warranty with a dealer. That is what I did and I had no issue's. Also shipping confirmation and insurance to cover your tail.

Ive only had one Snap on tool warrentied, it was a bluepoint cresent wrench...found it in my garage. Had a guy i work with see if he could get it warriented for me when the snap on guy came by as i was never there when he came. He did, no questions asked. Also had a very old 1/2" ratchet, just had him show the snap on guy, he said if it was chrome, he would of gave me a brand new one. If my co-worker ever has any problems with gettin anything on warrenty, ill give him that address.

10-19-2009, 10:15 PM
Well the usual things that get sent back are screwdrivers that have been ran over by a tank. Yes a tank. chrome sockets that are almost 8 point where the drive goes into (impact on chrome and osha is not a small town in Wisconsin) thats about it. a ratchet now and then.
What do you have that has been denied for warranty? just wondering

mrshaun
10-19-2009, 10:17 PM
one other thing. Government branded tools get sent back real fast. most have a V in the part number. Like SV8 1/2 chrome universal S8 is the regular number.
