could find much information on this ratchet, anyone own one?
i would also like to know if anyone has any experience with the professional series black finish ratchets? specifically the 52 tooth 1/2dr 16" handle.

They've been discussed here several times in the past. I have it and others. I don't know why they didn't sell better than they did off of the Mac truck. The one you have posted is the Stanley Proto version. It has a very comfortable handle and a strong ratchet head. The action is 52 teeth which makes it kind of fine. I like it and think it's a very durable product. The downside is that replacement parts if needed may not be available as they're not made anymore. Proto went to a slimmer 45 tooth head design and Mac went gearless, has a new line of imported 45 tooth ratchets, and the Facom 72 tooth clones. Definitely a sleeper.

I had the Mac Tools version. It seemed like a decent ratchet, but it really didn't do anything for me over any of my other ratchets. I like the dual 80 stuff better, and they didn't seem any better than the new 60 tooth Danaher design. I don't think they were bad by any means, though. With them not being produced any more, I don't know how they would be long term for parts. I don't see why they aren't making them anymore. They were as good or better than the other ratchets they were offering, and are finer than most.

No thanks........I'd rather have a gen-u-wyne MAC ratchet. :bounce:
The Big Dawg is a nice ratchet. They were all over eBay for 10 -12 bucks for a while (the shorter non-comfort grip version). The action on them is much smoother than the other recent Proto/Mac pear head ratchets I have tried.

THERE ARE NO "GEN-U-WYNE" MAC RATCHETS! Seriously, man.... :twak:
That being said, those Proto ratchets are some of the most under-rated ratchets that I know of. I have a couple Big Dawgs, and they are great. If the price is right for you, I wouldn't hesitate to buy them.
MAC is a joke. Proto, at least, has a history... a pedigree, if you will. You can generally buy Proto with confidence. Mac Tools are a delivery system. Not much more than that.

Yeah, I know.... that's why I haven't bought any Proto since those Big Dawgs.
Sad, really. My FIL gave me a 35 year old Proto 15" adjustable wrench for Christmas... that thing is a beast!:pimpflash

My flat finish long Big Dawgs tend to be the first ratchets I reach for, both because they are quite strong and the extra length makes a lot of difference to my uses.
For low torque stuff I use my Bosch gun, so if I'm using a ratchet it's almost always something that needs the leverage.

What is the country of origin for these big dawg ratchets?
EDIT: The seller responded quickly. He said - "These particular ratchets are made in the US. I have been told they come from the same facility that produces the MAC ratchets."

I have a short handle version of that ratchet and a long handle version without the comfprt grip. Both are A+ ratchets. I got them from Grainger on closeout last year for a great price.
