Older orange handle needle nose pliers I owned. Probably 10 years old or so. Needle end broke off on one side pulling a very stuck retaining pin on an axle. So, no receipt as it was a gift. Walked into Sears that is 45 minutes from home, said I had a Craftsman tool that was broken, the guy went and grabbed a similar Needle nose, and off I went. Was as easy as Pie. He did not have an orange handle model but said he could get one or he would just do this black handle one now. I tool the black handle model and off I went.

So, I am very pleased on this. Makes me want to continue my Craftsman purchases. My guess every place you take a broken tool to you may get another story but mine went well.

Most recent replacement story:

I had an '80s vintage 1/2" ratchet that locked up on me, nothing special. Took it in to Sears, the clerk said "we don't carry these anymore, would this one be an OK replacement?" and handed me the new thin-profile professional one.

:+1:

I never have any trouble getting anything exchanged. All the tool area workers know me. I usually get the item off the shelf and they do what they need to at the register and off I go.

You guys lucked out; I took a chrome plated "Made in USA" plier back because the chrome was flaking badly, and they said it was a discontiued model so they tried to give me a non-craftsman, made in China one .. :( .. I kept the flaking chrome one

I took a 13mm flex head Gearwrench back and they replaced it because one of the sides on the open end was dinged up enough to where "it rounded fasteners off. ;)" No questions asked.

I wonder how they'd be with exchanging a socket thats been abused. I've exchanged cracked sockets before, but I got a 22mm deep socket at a swapmeet that has been beat on. I don't know if they'll want to exchange it. It's mushroomed a bit on each end and has a small crack as well. I ALMOST feel guilty trying to exchange it anyway...
