View Full Version : Stick'em up

The other day, Elroy's Boss instructs him to procure some "strikers" for the shop. A simple call to our welding supplier yielded a half dozen, made in the USA strikes and three dozen replacement flints. Sales rep offered up this as a "free sample" alternative.

Anyone have any experience with these? It looks neat and it does shoot out a nice stream of sparks but there is no "gas cup"

Comments please

I've never seen anything like that, but Torrington is right up the street from me! I find that kind of cool. Thanks for posting it.

i remember using one years ago, unfortunatly it has been long enough ago i couldn't tell you much about it. i do remember a brand called CLICKIT (or klicket) IIRC that was a piezo striker that worked well.

I have seen them in welding and fab shops that I frequent in my job. I think more guys are using them than you might imagine. I do not have one though so I cannot speak personally to their performance or the like.

Those have been around since Rex was a pup. I remember using them a long time ago. Worked well, but I am a traditionalist, so I wasn't fond of them. Free is always good...

That's the only style of igniter /striker that I use anymore. From the info that I have seen they date back to at least the 40's. Alot easier to use that the cup style IMHO. They use the old style round flints like a Zippo lighter.

The ones I have were found at swaps and yard sales, usually for $1.

I own both styles and use them both. I think the cup style works better on windy days or when the shop fan is blowing IMHO.

I've got one, works ok. Might be easier with gloves on than the other style?
