Back in August, and again in November, the Craftsman Club sale had discounted the SAE and Metric 10pc Crow Foot (904362/904363) sets from $49.99/each to $29.99/each.
A buddy of mine and I went over to the local Sears last August to snag a set of each, him needing the metrics that weekend, and both of us just wanting both sets.
All they had on the shelf was a single metric set, so my buddy bought those, and we both got rainchecks - for him the SAE, for me, both.
Well, never really needing them, I forgot about them until I was browsing the tool section of the store last week, and saw them. No, I never got called to be told they were in stock, nor did I receive the mailed copy of the rain check.
I didn't have my rain check on me, so I grabbed the sets from the shelf, and went to the counter, hoping they still had my rain check there.
Of course not! Turns out, they don't do rain checks anymore! If they don't have it in stock, they'll source it from another store, or order it online and have it shipped (to the store? Free to your house? Dunno, didn't ask). They had a few rainchecks left from prior to this new policy, but mine wasn't in there - go figure.
So, no luck.
I went home to dig out my rain check, and found it, only to discover that the little bippy-tart who was working - er, employed - back in August mangled the rain check, and I made the mistake of not verifying that all was good.
She only filled it out for a set of metrics, and transposed the SKU number (6343 instead of 4363). Of course, Sears didn't want to accept the rain check, manager included. Never mind that the SKU code of 6343 brings up a shoe or a planter box, and that 4363 brings up another shoe or the metric crow foots, no go.
Big win for employing teenagers who know nothing about tools in the tool department.
So, figuring I was out of luck until they came on a club sale again, I had pretty much resigned myself to waiting, but for some reason, started Googling crow foots that night.
Found a gentleman in Vacaville via Craigslist who was selling both 10pc sets, still in the little vinyl bags, for $40 total, and after emailing him, he agreed to ship them for $5 additional.
Sucks for Sears - these are a regular sale, and they could have made some money, but, instead, they lost out completely! :bounce:
