Moose is teasing me/plier opinions

I've had, used and recommended Knipex pliers for years and always considered them the 'absolute 'best'. I'm just getting tired of certain member's "knipex or nothing" attitude.

Channellocks are great for the money! Even more so when on sale, like 35% at Canadian Tire right now. If value is key, buy Channellocks. If having the best pliers is key, buy Knipex with Grip-ons for locking pliers (IMO).

Anyway, long story short, I want to try some different brands and see if Knipex really are king!

The NWS set in the pics will be on it's way to me soon (again, thanks Moose) and I'm also in the process of getting some Facoms.

Any other ideas guys?:bowdown:

If your into testing, check out FELO, and WIHA, their German pliers are alright. my opinion, a lower class than knipex, but some of the Felos are quite nice, I like the finish on them- they look quite similar to the images above.

I'm open to other ideas than knipex, but I have yet to find anything even in the same class as knipex cobra pliers. There are a ton of places that try to copy the way they look, but they do not function the same. Channellock however has its place in the low dollar market for those more concerned with dollars than function. They probably outsell knipex 100 to 1 for that reason.

Hmmm, curious. i thought that all Mac pliers starting with P code were Knipex ones. Maybe it's just the letter for Pliers! Itmakes ense!:lol_hitti

Those don't look Like Knipex Merk, but they do look very nice. Hsve you tried the Knipex needlenose?

Felo pliers are quite nice and roubust enough to do the job no excess weight.

I highly suspect those MACs are made by KAL Tools.

Knipex along with a lot of other nose pliers have the handles way too short in my opinion.

they look so similar I would not be surprised if one was made by the other. I really don't think FELO is a big time plier maker, I would bet they have them made and have their name marked on them.

I got the something or other of taking apart a bunch of 1 1/2" pipe this week and I decided to test this out. I my 12" Knipex Cobra pliers, my 12" Craftsmans that are pretty much an exact copy of the Channellocks and a couple of 18" pipe wrenches. Turned out at least for me the pipe wrenches were a heck of a lot faster. The Knipexs had the advantages of little tiny adjustments but there was no noticeable difference between Knipexs and the Craftsmans other than if it was an odd size the Knipex could better adjust to it. The grip needed was about the same with the Knipex maybe needing slightly more unless the Cmans had to be more open then the required much more grip. The Channellocks bite into stuff really really well if you have the set up so they wrap slightly around the pipe. If they don't wrap slightly this is where you start running into a problem with being able to grip the pipe well.

Honestly to me unless I had a lot of really odd shaped stuff or I used them to extract more square things I have a hard time seeing the real advantage to to spending the extra on Knipex. I was kind of disappointed because I bought this pair thinking "Oh yeah Knipex; these are bad ass and I can retire off my other set of slip joints" so far it hasn't been the case. I like the fatter handles on the Channellock style because with my size XL hands they fit better.

Meh, Mac blows. If it's rebranded, i'd buy it from the OE instead. Best $20 i ever spent was on a 30" crowbar that's served me extremely well for half my life, never once let me down. Can't beat it.

I've yet to see another channellock type plier that can grab without any squeeze pressure. You can stand on the back handle and jump if you felt like it with the cobra. You could get vice grips to stay in place, but if you stood on the back of the handle you'll fall on your face.
