that machine would be an asset in any shop, I don't care what other equipment you already have.

I wonder how much it will go for...

So I was looking around that site and found a few interesting things. Have any of you ever bought from this surplus auction site? Whats involved?

Clausings do not go cheaply like Hidridge they bring out the buyers who pay the premium prices.

Two questions:

What's going on with that orange paint where the quill would be? Is it missing the quill?

Are there companies that can do an inspection of a piece of equipment like this? But then I don't know if it's a good idea to give them a lead like this and have them bid against me.

Is there anyone on the board close to the location in Crane, Indiana who I could hire to check it out for me.

My brother live in Columbus, Ohio so I could go up to visit him and make a detour to Crane.

It is packaging support so the table is not damaged in transit it is new this is they way they come shipped.

It takes Morse taper drills usually you can get a Morse taper chuck if you so desire. real industrial machines do not include chucks they are up to you to supply or purchase, it is part of the tooling up of a machine.

You really should go do some simple research as to what you are trying to get into.

I know what you're saying, it may to to much machine for me.

Do you have any suggestion regarding how big of machine I would need to drill 1/2" stainless steel? Big meaning hp., and lowest speed. Three phase will not be problem my buddy had some phase convertors I can buy reasonalbly.

The orange thing in the front is a saftey guard.I have the same press in the shop that I work in.

Excellent machine. If someone is close by they should grab that.

Horsepower is not the issue. Its the spindle speed that you want to be low.
1 to 2 Hp units will more than do the job.

My Old Powermatic had a 1Hp 3 phase on it.I swapped it out to a 2 Hp single phase because I did not want to get a converter just for a press.

Why would you say its too much machine?

That is a good american made machine.

Will drill through any steel thickness that you put on that table.

They are real heavy and will not vibrate at all.

With the auctions fee 10% of selling price and 7% sales tax the winner paid nearly $1900 if I recall. That was definetly more than I was willing to pay. Just more drill press than I really need.

I'm kicking myself for missing this Clausing (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=280328206102) on ebay. It was in my hometown. May not be in good of shape as the one here, but a good deal to say the least
