Klein cable strippers--opinions?

I'm doing some wiring projects around the house and had to strip some 14/3 today, so I thought I'd buy Klein's K-1412-3 cable stripper.

I really couldn't get the hang of it on some scrap pieces I had, so I went with the classic cable ripper by Ideal.

The Klein is supposed to cut through the cable jacket with a quarter turn, but I found it just twisted the cable and made little indentations. Definitely not worth $29 at HD.

I have another project where I have to strip a ton of 14/2 and I'm hoping Klein's 1412 for 14/2 and 12/2 works better.

I like cable strippers with a length adjustment.

I've had great success with the 1412. The ripper style hasn't been so good to me, even when I sharpened the little prong.

Same here, but those Klien 1412 work like a dream.

I haven't used the 1412's - but I have a feeling they'd work good. The strippers in the first image look mickey mouse.

I have used all of them, when I was a kid, I used to strip copper scrap for my grandpa, as he was an electrician. I started with the stamped style, moved up to a knife. Have done millions of miles of cable with a knife. Now that I have a wonderful, disease that has crippled most of my left side, I use the Klein 1412, and don't have a problem what so ever. If your having issue, talk to Klein about it, they use to back their stuff rather well.

I have the 1412 I bought at a flea market for a few dollars. Guy had a bunch of Klein stuff.

I knew it was for Romex but I could not figure out how it was supposed to work. Showed it to my firend who is an electrician. He had a box of Romex in his garage. He was stripping it like a madman with the 1412. He liked it so I gave it to him. Went back to the flea market and bought another one. Sears also had/has this.

He used a pushing action to remove the jacket. That is the part I could not figure out.

I ended up getting these and they work VERY well. I was surprised at how easy it was to remove the sheath from both 14/2 and 12/2 cable. Very handy tool and worth the $21 bucks I spent at Home Depot for it. :beer:

Oh, and I also kind of like how it only has two slots for stripping wire - 14 and 12. It makes it easier to find the right slot compared to my other pair of strippers.

Yup - i used the box cutter way for years, but after re-wiring my house and shop - 1412's have save me a lot of time - i havn't seen those first kliens.. good info though!

Yeah, I have the Craftsman version of those, I think. They look exactly alike, anyway.

The 1412's I got have the "Klein Kurve," too, which I like.

Those strippers work pretty darn good. But, personally for stripping wire I prefer the Ideal Combination tool wire stripper.
