Im looking to solve a problem of having small gas tanks linger here and there for everything from my chain saw/weed eater, etc to my log splitter, and Northern Tools makes a combo fuel tank/tool box (see below) that looks like it could solve my problem (much rather have the fuel outdoors on my beater pickup than in the garage/house) however, it says "Not intended to be used to fuel another vehicle" and "not intended for Gasoline" Then what the F good is it? Is this just some boilerplate BS or is there a real safety issue here?

i am not positive but i beleive this tank is meant to move deisel fuel, kerosene, and oils wich are not as volotile as gasoline. gasoline has grounding issues that are caused by static buildup from the flow of gasoline through the tank pump and hoses. this static buildup can be dangerous and cause fires or explosions with gasoline. this is why portable gas cans are not allowed to be fillled in the back of vehicles and must be filled on the ground. i think you need to find a tank that is approved for gasoline. i reccomend consulting someone familiar with your local laws and regulations concerning fuel transportation

That tank you refer to is designed for Diesel fuel and to be mounted in the bed of a pickup.

Quote from page - It is the user's responsibility to comply with local, state and federal requirements pertaining to safe transportation, loading and discharging of tank contents.

Therefor I suggest it is not for the purpose you require.

If I remember correctly its against FED DOT regulations to transport gasoline in this manner because of the explosive factors. On the other hand I have a very similar tank in the bed of my dually and always use it. Its been in there for 15 years and haven't had any problems.

I suspected that DOT regs had a hand in this - but - apparently, its OK if I use this tank as an aux to my regular fuel tanks? Why is it OK for one but not the other? Fuel vapor recirc?

Diesel, its only good for diesel, you can't put it in your truck if you have a gasoline truck.

you could use this tank in a gasoline powered truck to transport deisel fuel, but not as an auxilary gasoline tank to be plumbed into the fuel system on that same truck
