I got this old Johnson model J saw for free a while back, and just started to clean it up.

They started making these in 1938, and this is serial # 1811, so probably fairly early. 700 pounds of good US-made iron.

I rewired everything as the motor cord was frayed and neither the power cord nor the switched outlets were grounded properly. It needs one blade guide replaced and a bit of cleanup and it'll be ready to cut metal (up to 10" diameter round stock).

So did your wife come out and exclaim "What a big Johnson!" when you showed it to her?

Nice saw. And I believe this makes you eligible for the retroactive "You Suck!" award.

Thanks for the suckage :)

I bought a Bridgeport mill and a Monarch lathe from the owner, and he threw in the saw to get it out of his barn. I got a pretty good deal on those tools too.

I might have a couple of old band saws to sell in the next month or two. Sorry to jump in here with that.

I just discovered this place, http://www.bandsawparts.com/, which might be helpful to some.
