I need a new bench vise. I have had a cheap champion for at least 20 years that is finally giving up. Saw this and wonder if anyone can give advice on it.

Run!!!!
You need to step up to wilton's machinist line of vises. We bought a square red wilton at work, it lasted 5 days.

I would check local stores, garage sales, and CL if you are not in a rush. I picked up a excellent 4" craftsman for $5.
If this is your only vice and you don't have a specific purpose for it I would consider at least a 6" or bigger.

That was fast, and kind of what I was thinking. I am in no hurry. My old one is still usable but nearing the end. Thanks for the quick responses.

I bought the Craftsman "Professional" 4 1/2" vise when it was on sale a couple years ago. It's a rebadged Wilton, looks to be the same model you linked to above.
I'm not hammering on it on a daily basis, but it's always treated me well...
I'd love to find one of these smoking deals on a big old US-made vise the folks on here always post about, just haven't yet... :)

Take a look at this vise on CL in Fort Wayne for $20.

I just broke the 6 inch offshore one that I had for lots of years also on Staerday.
The weld that the screw goes thru in the rear just let go.
