I recently purchased a bubble balancer for my shop from ebay"

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110373354116&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT&viewitem=

Just got it today and out of the box it had the glass in the bullseye broken. I do not think the seller did anything wrong other than not packing it well. The odd thing is that the head was wrapped in bubble wrap and stuffed in the body for shipping. When I got it the stem was stcking out of the corner and I was initially worried that it would be bent. Somehow the glass eye got broken. Im sure it was in shipping because it was covered in oil and there was a lot of glass slivers. Anyway, is this thing now trash of is there somewhere I can get a replacement bullseye. I have seen the one on ebay that is universal and will not settle for anything less than a factory style replacement piece. Any help would be appreciated.
Regards,
Scott

Well, there is a bonus in the form of two words (bone us) that goes along with this. The seller says its on the shipper and he could care less. The box showed no outward signs of damage when recieved but the head which was loosely packed in the box was damaged from what I can only surmise was beating around inside the rest of the balancer. I filed a paypal dispute and issued a dispute on the charge with my credit card. How do you think this is gonna end?

I am not sure I would trust a replacement that was anything less than the replacement part for that unit.
if you install a generic replacement I would verify it with something that is verified ballanced

I have 2 of those balancers, and even though they are both a different brand, the both look identical in every way. I think that only one company manufactured them, and everyone branded them with there own company brand. Now that I see how valuable they are, I think that I am going to sell one of them. Just deciding which one to sell is the question. I never thought of them as being very collectible.

Update: Paypal ruled in my favor but I have to send the broken pieces back by a method that is trackable. Anybody had this expoerience? Am I going to take the hit for return shipping? A twist to the story is that the vendor sent me an email in which he tells me not to ship it back, he will just go ahead and process the refund. I do not trust him though. If I do not submit a tracking number w/in 10 days I forfeit the refund. Im just wondering how I am going to get screwed. Any constructive advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Scott

The seller can issue you a credit today, and that will end the PayPal dispute. If you have to send the unit back, then the only way to do so is by UPS, and mark the package "signature required", since UPS will drop packages without signatures many times. I would get the telephone number of the seller and call him directly. Junk...

That sucks, because if I have to ship my tool box back, I will be out close to 100 for shipping back, and then I would want to make them eat it. I am going to argue with the person I am fighting with in case UPS denies the claim which they will for wrong box and bmc. I would like to keep the box and take less money back, since it was their mistake. Make him give you the money back ASAP, and then you know you are covered.

Actually, Paypal said that since it was less than $250 I did not have to requires a signature.

If you send it USPS insured it requires a signature.
