Hi guys! Had an idea of hosting a get together of GJ members at my shop outside of baltimore MD. I would love to meet some fellow tool junkies and thought I'd float an idea.

If there is enough interest, I'd like to host a get together at my shop. The purpose is to get to know each other in person, have a swap meet and see some tool collections.

Big draw!!! Chad S has agreed to show some of his early Snap ON collection. As most of you know Chad collects 20's and 30's snap on tools and I believe he has a very serious collection. He lives 15 minutes from my shop.

I have some 40's 50's and 60's snap on as well. And some other cool stuff too.

Anyone else can also show their stuff too.

We could certainly have a swap meet. I can supply tables and there would be no charge.

I will supply food and drink (at least most of it).

I figure folks from MD PA VA WVA NJ DEL would all be within a few hour drive.

All GJ members would be welcome.

I was thinking a Saturday would work best, noon till 5?

I want your feedback and ideas. Nothing is set in stone except it has to be fun

So what do you think. Give me ideas, time of year, what to include etc.

Out of towners- Washington DC is 40 minuted away. Could make an great weekend if you had to travel a litttle further.

Let me know but don't expect replies from me tonite. I'm going to bed, tool auction in am.

Thanks, Phil

Thanks for the offer, it's appreciated!

As Phil has stated, I will have a large portion of my Snap-on collection on display. Mostly complete sets from the 20's-early 30's, and then a display of the drive tool progression (handles and ratchets) from the 20's-the early 40's, as well as a few examples of rarer examples from the 50's and 60's will be shown.

I will also have a lot of newer and old snap on tools for sale/trade in the swap area (priced very fairly, not ebay and pawn shop prices!), as I have a lot of extra inventory I have been too lazy to post in the classifieds:)

Im really looking foreword to this, and the chance to meet a lot of the people on here in person.

I live in Cleveland, Ohio. I would be interested in attending this event. It would be nice if it was held sometime between June and September. I think out of towners would appreciate if it was a 2 day weekend event (Saturday and Sunday, noon to 5).

Any and all ideas appreciated. Time of year, specific dates, number of days (more than 1 day and I'll need some help), what to do, ratchet lube demo, screwdriver toss:bounce:.

Lets think outside the box (not my strong suit)

Note: someone mentioned beer; BYOB I don't care but I can't participate.

Bump to the top. Snapmom mentioned an ad on CL. Don't like that idea, don't want just anyone coming into my shop, but.... bring your coworkers or best friends. I sold a box to timchin1 and he works at a dealer. He could certainly bring a couple of buddies along.

Chad S mentioned selling extras. While my intent was more get together than business, I think his idea is sound. I certainly have enough tools to fill 2 big roll cabs, and the roll cabs too for sale.

If folks are going to drive a few hours, I want them to feel it is worth it, so the more input the better.

Anybody else willing to show their collection? I know that's what interests me.

Keep the ideas coming. Also, Baltimore is a cheap flight from most anywhere, so no excuses:lol_hitti

don't want just anyone coming into my shop, but....

I agree with this. Also being one who will have valuables on display, I share the same concerns.

Phil & Chad,
This idea would be extremely enjoyable for me!!!! Problem I have is timing & of course $. I am on a farm in central Iowa and Spring & Fall are way to busy. Also I would have to heavily refrain from tool purchases to save up money for airfare, lodging, and food. I really would like to meet several of you people with my kind of interests!!! If the date would work out I would definately make an attempt to come!!!!

Fleetline, probably date will in summer. That would be cool for you to fly in. Please realize this is a first for me and I have no idea what turn out would be. I'd hate for you to be disappointed. Would you tie it in with vacation and sight seeing? Lot of history in DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New york. Could be a fun spot on your vacation plans.

Chad, This would be a great possible trip for me and the family. The girls have been studying history of the colonies and early America!! Maybe this could be implemented in the trip. I would love to meet you in person and see your awesome collection first hand!! We will just have to see what date gets decided and how the schedule works out. Mike

I would make it by depending my schedule I am a truck driver so it is hard telling but usually home on weekends.

By the way I am a little slow but I just connected Fatfillup with the guy in the pressure washer shirt named Phil I see at the auctions.

Remember the baldheaded guy in the blue tank top? You gave me your card at one point.

I'd like to attend also. how far are you from the train station?

And I bet I'll have a hoot getting a 100 pound box of tools past the metal detector on Amtrak :)

Yes, that would be me. And I do think I remember you. I Always wear the pressure washer shirt at auctions. Made some good contacts that way. Next time you see me, introduce yourself. It is a small world.

Guys, this is starting to take shape, but we need more ideas. Thanks for the interest.

I'm going to start a list of all interested, so post up!

I have been setting all of my for sale tools aside, and most are snap on, and a few other good usa brands, both old and newer. All will be priced to move, and also help out fellow members at a great price.

I will have probably 100+ pieces for sale/trade, including complete sets, ratchets, sockets, flex sockets, extensions, speeders, pliers, and specialty tools.

Im very excited!

Well, it isn't a show car.....but my early first generation 91' Diamond Star Turbo (with pop up headlights), ain't that common anymore.
I have a nice little collection of 3/8" & 1/2" drive vintage American ratchets and socket sets, that I'll bring along too.

Just as a mention to you all, Falls Church High School is having a car show this upcoming Saturday, May 9th. It is being held at the school near the auto tech class/shop. It goes from 9:00am until 2:00pm and there will a competition for various classes.

Mike Blondin is running the show and he would certainly appreciate a big turnout.

Please contact me if you are thinking about coming and participating or even just showing up to see - should be pretty good as I think some cars from the Chick-Fil-A in Sterling Friday night car gathering will be there as well.
