What's that lump on the round head with the screw in it? Some sort of tensioner? I've never seen one like that.

Hmm if thats the pawl then that ratchet is some sort of round head/pear head mutant.

Pretty cool.

I'm sure that is where the pawl is.

I just happened to have cleaned my first ratchet of that style today - an old Matador...

Under the screw you will find a spring which keeps tension on a small cylinder that will engage the semi-circular cutaways (not really "teeth", per se) on the rotating gear...
